The State Dept Calibri thing sucks. When I was in high school, I had this stupid combined econ-American govt class that the teacher refused to teach, so I took both textbooks home to read and the thing I remember was that the econ book was in sans-serif font and I read the whole thing in a month

This is why we need both Janeese for mayor and a full takeover of the DC Democratic Party
We need more journalistic attention paid to this message. The Democrats aren't capable of meeting the moment. All they want to do is repeat focus group approved bland attacks on Trump, rather than lead the way with proposals to make people's lives better

The thing at the core of Bowser being so accomodationist with Trump is that she doesn't think she could win, and she's right - not because DC is at such a political disadvantage vs national Republicans but because she herself is inept at anything except managing her local whiskey ring administration

I am a non-profit board member and this is a correct take!
I would argue pretty strenuously that overreliance on nonprofits for social services is, in fact, a centrist position at best. NGO world cloaks itself in progressivism by adhering to cultural signifiers of social justice. Endless land acknowledgements as they take public jobs from union workers.

My opinion about the accommodations discourse today is:

1) Universal design. Universal design is the answer. Accommodations for everybody.
2) It's the carceral bullshit around grades and testing that makes accommodations seem like a problem. Stop doing it! Just let the carceral bullshit go!

I think there's a really good if expensive option here - leave the outer concourse of the building intact, renovate the central concourse into a more contemporary office building, and convert the courtyards between them into exterior spaces. This land on should absolutely stay federal property.

being anti accommodations is just Social Darwinism and is quasi-eugenicist
The administration is extorting universities for billions of dollars and attempting to destroy free speech, academic freedom, and independent thought but the Atlantic talked to a few professors at elite universities who think the problem is that some students need a little extra time on exams

look I know this is tired at this point, but it should be said that the process of continuous adversarial press inquiry has forced them to acknowledge a reality they're supposedly just not aware of, rather than just describing a fantasy world as most Trump admin people do
RAJU: If defenseless survivors were killed, would that constitute a violation of the laws of war?

MIKE JOHNSON: I'm not going to prejudge any of that. I was pretty busy yesterday. I didn't follow a lot of the news.

I have come to see stadium politics as a real commentary on state capacity and political imagination. In a world where avg citizens see govt as ineffectual, stadiums become the only conceivable public works project, onto which they then project decades worth of hopes and dreams.
When it comes to stadiums, people will believe the most ridiculous obviously untrue things. This stadium could "potentially save lives"?... It's embarrassing that someone would say something this asinine out loud. buff.ly/fN8kCUC

Ex-official explained this in a way that will stick with me forever: Within fire departments, the EMTs are overworked and underpaid and don’t have time to advocate for policy. The fire chiefs, on the other hand, have a lot more time on their hands. So fire response, not medical, dictates policy.
