of course, still less than the totally-out-of-control MPD overtime! I get the impression Bowser has functionally no control over that spending, even if she wanted to
sammyszkowski.bsky.social
with the caveat that I only like Mendo when he's hitting at Bowser, it is really genuinely eyebrow-raising to suggest reprogramming from debt service. I'm sure there are some accounting tricks involved but surely there are consequences from not spending a planned $84 million on servicing debt

Hearing this sort of thing, I wonder how much is about DSA as such and how much of this would be pretext for say, attempting to illegally denaturalize a prominent DSA member

should go without saying but the Posobiec has the causality of antifa in that context utterly, completely backwards. he is a moron after all!
sammyszkowski.bsky.social
The cookedness of the far right brain is that their respectability politics is literally still about agreeing with Nazis, just in a pseudo-intellectual way
sammyszkowski.bsky.social
This is almost a trivial observation but for a long time on the right, not even the especially far right but just the historically minded of them, “Weimar” has been a code for degenerate progressivism that would prompt a violent reaction - that’s the audience he’s speaking to
crimethinc.com
Jack Posobiec explicitly says that "Antifa" dates back to the Weimar Republic, explicitly acknowledging that this administration is opposed to those who resisted the arrival of Adolf Hitler in Power.

lmao I would simply like to know what single, anonymous donor funded the $10-ish million new chancery that he had built in Rochester immediately after the diocese came out of bankruptcy

and this is borne out by public opinion! People's views harden on immigration when they stop seeing what their alleged preferred policy looks like, and as soon as it's implemented they realize they hate everything about it, except this empty platitude they hold onto.
sammyszkowski.bsky.social
I think liberal politicians really overestimate how much they need to accept the premise that people should be deported. The fact it's such an enduring public sentiment isn't because it's bone deep, it's because it's a total palimpsest of a view - scraped of any reality, just a patina of a view.

So almost the entire D.C. Council is now meeting being closed doors to negotiate how to proceed on the expanded youth curfew emergency bill. It seems pretty clear they are negotiating legislation behind closed doors, in violation of the spirit of the city’s Open Meetings Act.

'new legal analyses' all of these lawyers involved in claiming the law, that says to pay workers for their work, instead means the opposite need to be disbarred
atrupar.com
Johnson: "It's true that in previous shutdowns, many or most furloughed employees have been paid for the time they were furloughed, but there is new legal analysis - I don't know the details, I just saw a headline - but there are some legal analysts saying that might not be appropriate or necessary"

One of the things I always find telling is the idea that we have to judge past people by the standards of their time, as if the fact that they did bad things means that everyone thought it was okay. They didn't. Pretty much every obviously evil act had people saying that it was, in fact, bad.

Sadly, the reigning epistemology of journalism only acknowledges "true" or "real" (and thus speakable) motive when it is explicitly stated by the speaker. It can in no way, shape, or form be attributed via logic, history, or pattern. This bans news from naming anything one would like to hide.

this raises an important question: how much further can someone fail upwards? are we looking at president bari "failson" weiss?
pbump.com
Sort of amazing that Weiss doesn’t understand that she’s in a no-win position. MAGA will get mad about something and she will be blamed and the whole effort won’t have helped CBS anyway.

Ross Douthat trying to claim Hasan Piker by repeatedly calling him a post-liberal is quite goofy. not sure how else to read an extremely conventional anti-US-hegemony social democrat like Piker being lumped in with all the other tendencies Douthat would call post-liberal!

as far as I can tell the guiding principle of "anti-woke" "right populists" is just anti-humanistic alienation. the only intrinsic value that a person has to them is as a weapon with which to bash an opponent. a zombie militarism in place of a soul.

Nadeau entering Silverman levels of reality-warping intra-progressive delusions.
sammyszkowski.bsky.social
Nadeau blaming the Uncommitted campaign for Trump is such tired bullshit. Uncommitted voters, of which I am one, were largely loyal Democrats who wanted to influence their party and were all but expelled for their tenacity.
alexkoma.bsky.social
In a preview of the bruising fights to come, Nadeau has already begun attacking @aparnafordc.bsky.social, the former DSA organizer, over her pro-Palestinian advocacy.

Raj has rejected her comments, saying she's a loyal Democrat and they're reminiscent of Trump's attempts to divide the left.

my suspicion is that AI companies actually think they're above copyright law - they invested in a lawless presidency, their bubble is the only game in an otherwise stagnant economy, and when they get sued, they expect the laws to be warped to accommodate and regularize their theft
