Trump is the charismatic front man, but the people selected for his admin are clearly very well thought out to be full loyalists and understood what levers of powers to pull. Vance made zero sense electorally, but he was picked for VP. Miller is everywhere on TV, etc...

They came into the second term with a pretty clear plan and they're executing it very quickly, with very limited opposition. I don't think Trump is some kind of genius, but the people who are running the day to day operation clearly know what they're doing and why.

So will Trump not get in the way of mass protests, but target any potential leaders, pick off and brutalize some randoms, and just continue to use state power to put down opposition until they run out of steam and give in.

Seeing russian interference in 2016, it was obvious what was happening because we'd seen it used against Ukraine in 2014 and against Maidan specifically.

The attacks on free press and opposing political figures? Yup!

Deploying internal security forces against peaceful protesters? Yup!

Honestly, for anyone who is Eastern European and paid attention to Ukraine since at least 2014, the rise of Trump is maddening in how obvious it all was. We've seen all of these tactics, Putin perfected them in russia and Ukraine, along with Lukashenko in Belarus and Orban in Hungary.

It's not about NATO in the sense that NATO is not an actual threat to russia, but NATO IS a threat to russian territorial and geopolitical ambitions in its "near abroad".

NATO threatens russia's desire to invade the Baltics for example, just as it would if Ukraine was a member.
