That fellah that makes videos. You might have seen some on Computerphile etc. Make weekly gardening videos on "Pots & Trowels" Made a few music videos about sausage rolls as well. Like drums, music, snowboarding & cars but petrol ones should be a hobby

As our CEO beautifully puts it: "We spend our engineering time on stability and features users actually requested. Not on AI assistants that hallucinate answers, while training on your private browsing history. Novel idea, apparently. 🎯

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Managed to remove 2TB from Dropbox and downgrade my plan, which feels like a semi-victory in my battle to de-US-ify my tech. Long way to go.

As a videographer I normally edit my own (mistakes) footage, but really interesting when occasionally you work with someone else's stuff. Been given three finished clips to extract parts from..

Just back from emergency vets, Marley swallowed a raisin. Thankfully he's emptied his stomach now and although he's a bit woozy he seems ok

Last term I tried an experiment: I walked into my Tech and Design Ethics class, admitted that I had *no idea* what to do about ChatGPT - so I would let them figure it out.

As in: their first project was to decide and write the ChatGPT policy for the class.

Here's what happened:

Happened upon an old (2013?) episode of Top Gear last night, watched out of curiosity, despite still being annoyed by the trio of presenters there was a stunt with 80's/90's hot hatches. Ooh this'll be good I thought. Then they omitted the 205GTi ?!?!?! I turned off!

When I read and enjoyed John Niven's book "Kill 'em All" I wasn't expecting it to turn out so true...

(An excellent book btw, but you have to stop and remind yourself it was written in 2018)

Reckon the only people watching will be watching ironically and/or as a drinking game.

Aside from the Clementine Clown's acolytes who'll love it...
Do these twats honestly believe anyone in this country will watch this film? I look forward to seeing it bomb.

Making a list of US tech that I use that I can transition away from. Already begun a transfer away from Dropbox after using in my professional life for about 14yrs. It's been pretty solid apart from a couple of times where they tried to force me to swap plan and I lost some files by agreeing...

Mad fact, in the US, 'mad' seems to tend to mean angry, in the UK it can mean that, but it is more usually akin to "crazy" - such as in the beginning of this note. Crazy huh?

(Mentioned because someone said "don't say I'm mad" which can mean two very different things in UK.)

Just another reminder to forward this to your friends and tell them to leave that frigging cesspool.
For the last few days on X, people (mainly women, and sometimes children) have had nonconsensual images of them in swimsuits (or much worse) requested by users and created by Grok.

Musk's only apparent response thus far has been to crack jokes about it.
so x dot com’s ai generated CSAM and they admitted it may violate US law and … i haven’t seen in anyone in power say much at all or call to stop using the platform

I like having the BBC news app a lot, despite what people say I find it unbiased and relatively balanced.

However.

Someone needs to decide what constitutes a good reason to hit the "breaking news" button. The fact that somewhere in the world is in a different timezone is not breaking news.

Listen I was the #1 tiktok hater but having recently discovered the beam ng car crash simulation videos I've completely reversed my position
Researchers had people do a memory task, take a 10-min break (rest, Twitter, YouTube, or TikTok), then resume.

Result? Only TikTok wrecked their ability to remember planned intentions. After scrolling, accuracy dropped from ~80% to basically coin-flip levels. Twitter & YouTube? No effect.
Short-Form Videos Degrade Our Capacity to Retain Intentions: Effect of Context Switching On Prospective Memory
Social media platforms use short, highly engaging videos to catch users' attention. While the short-form video feeds popularized by TikTok are rapidly spreading to other platforms, we do not yet under...
