Seattle’s big dark: 5:30pm at Green Lake. Even the eastbound path from the community center is pitch black.

Seen on Reddit: drivers speeding down the Green Lake “protected” bike lane.
This is so dangerous, we need concrete barriers now! www.reddit.com/r/seattlebik...

It looks like speed cushions will be installed soon between the south end of the 8th Ave NE Greenway and Olympic View Elementary. Is SDOT officially beginning the greenway extension shown on this map?

Great to see Union Street’s bike lane upgraded into an “even better bike lane”
It looks like @seattledot.bsky.social recently upgraded the barrier between the bike lane and parking lane on Union St to a curb (from flex posts). This would be a great addition to all parking protected bike lanes as many drivers overestimate the width of their vehicles.

Straight to hell for someone who does a hit and run to a 2-year-old
Seattle Fire is currently responding to a driver who hit a 2-year-old child and then fled the scene at Alki Avenue SW near 61st Ave SW.

Driver was last seen heading south on Alki.

Recently, I’ve been reporting bike lane obstructions on @bikelaneuprising.bsky.social, since Seattle no longer accepts online reports for parking violations. It’s a useful tool for gathering data on where bike lanes need improvement.

Often, Seattle playgrounds go dark at sunset due to a lack of lighting while the nearby parking lots are well lit

There's still a lot of curable ballots from Seattle (about 1,800). Most are unsigned or signature mismatches, and most skew younger.

When you’ve got a driver parked in the bike lane and another going the wrong way, you wonder if the design is optimal …

I was a great weekend to
Bike around Seattle ☀️. Yes, I complained a lot, but credit where it’s due: most bike lanes were freshly swept. Here’s a quick video from downtown and Capitol Hill.

These days, the usable width of a bike lane feels like 10 inches.

It was really wet tonight… even by Seattle standards…

Hard to say what’s worse on NE 65th st bike lane: the seasonal leaf pileup or the perennial car takeover...
(You can see a car parked in the bike lane in both directions in the first picture)

Did I mention a block of bike lane reopened on Eastlake Ave E, just before the University Bridge? Oh never mind it’s just for drivers who don’t have time to park in the free parking garage offered by this business.

In Seattle, November marks the start of ‘wet leaves season’ on our bike lanes. A couple of examples on the way to Capitol Hill.

I’d love to see more quantitative data on cargo bike adoption. Anecdotally, the shift is very visible in Seattle: when I started biking with my kid 5 years ago, I rarely saw any cargo bike. Today, a third of parents show up to soccer practice on bike, and about 20 parents bike to school every day.

The best time to cross the Fremont Bridge by bike is right after a bridge opening.

NE 65th St’s bike lane really needs improvements. It connects to the light rail and links both sides of an elementary and high school attendance area divided by I-5, but it’s constantly blocked by drivers.

First time taking our HSD on the light rail. It worked, but it’s a bit bulky, good thing the train wasn’t busy.
It was a great way to speed up a 10-mile trip north.

Missed the 5000-mile photo, but 5005 still feels like a milestone.
That’s 5005 miles since I got the bike back in January 2023.
It might not sound like much over 33 months compared to driving, but it covers nearly all my city trips, about 5 miles a day, even though I work from home 99% of the time.
