If you don’t teach your students your subject, you’re not doing your job.

If you teach your students to ask AI first, you’re ensuring they’ll never be *needed* for any job.

You’re also guaranteeing that knowledge of your subject slowly dies.

Asking ChatGPT is gaining neither knowledge nor skills.

I haven’t checked the specifics of @neilcohn.bsky.social‘s work on this now, but it looks like the pattern is also that role (agent/patient) outranks left vs right presentation. In any case, I’d expect the animacy configuration to play a larger role anyway (i.e. if P is more animate than A).

I think some of our work on sentence production in a picture description paradigm speaks to that. When counterbalancing the agent/patient side, the roles itself, the animacy configuration and the grammar of the language appear more important for speakers‘ choices (across languages). Links below ⬇️
