(1/5) The more I've been thinking about this, the more I'm realizing how the criminal background checks might be justified. I keep picturing people justifying this by saying, "this'll protect against pedophiles and other sexual predators." I'd like to counter these possible justifications.

It is staggering that on the eve of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, Prime Minister Carney is cozying up to the UAE and diluting Canada’s commitments to gender equality on the world stage. The G20 Summit in Johannesburg should have been a moment for Canada to reaffirm human rights as the backbone of our foreign policy. Instead, Carney signalled a retreat, telling reporters he “wouldn’t describe our foreign policy as feminist,” even as he aligns himself with a state long known for systemic human rights violations.

My first promotion comes in the form of what is a very obvious fact for the communities living it: the current (& global) MMIWG2S+ crisis is a gendered violence. There is no if, ands, or buts. It is intersectional gendered violence PERIOD
