My blog post with the National Council on Public History is out!!!!

I think my exploration of social media as a historical medium and method is worth reading. It might give people something to think about that they haven't considered before ❤️

Public History and Social Media | National Council on Public History
What shapes public history in 2025? The answer (for me) is social media. By utilizing the online persona of The Sex Work Historian as public history, I have uncovered social media as a medium and a me...

Because my life gets busy (yay grad school 🫠), I try to do my monthly acknowledgments in advance to ensure I don't miss anything. I must admit, my brain is NOT having it today. The words are there, but the accompanying images are meh. Apologies in advance for my lack of creativity.

Exactly. I've yet to see a SWERF who isn't a TERF and vice versa.
sexworkhistorian.bsky.social
I think some do realize it, but they don't care. Which makes me feel less bad when I see them crying when the systems they maintain eventually bite them in the ass. If you can't/don't want to do something until it impacts you directly you get little sympathy from me

SWERFs and TERFs do patriarchy's job for it. Much like their 1st-wave feminist foremothers, many SWERFs and TERFs only want to dismantle the elements of patriarchy that don't benefit them. They are fine with the intersectional oppression of others as long as their needs are met.

An important read both for #DomesticViolenceAwarenessMonth and #LGBTQQIA2S+HistoryMonth: www.hrc.org/resources/un...

*I know I've said much of what is in this article on my account before. But it bears repeating until both DV and anti-queer stigma/violence are abolished.*
Understanding Intimate Partner Violence in the LGBTQ+ Community
Content Warning: This resource discusses issues of intimate partner violence (IPV) that some readers may find sensitive. If you are experiencing IPV,…

(2/2) Yeah, no. You cannot advocate for women's equality and the betterment of their lives if you exclude ENTIRE GROUPS OF PEOPLE. Patriarchy does much the same. And if patriarchy does this, then how are you "fighting" it? Short answer: you're not. Don't be the patriarchy's puppet.
sexworkhistorian.bsky.social
(1/2) Something important needs to be reiterated for #WomensHistoryMonth (Canada): trans women are women. Sex workers are women. Trans sex workers are women. Much (primarily cis and white) feminist thought excludes sex workers and trans women/femme persons from its movement.

(4/4) I’ve always been partial to the works of Amber Dawn. Amber is an educator, a renowned writer, and a sex worker. She is the author of Sub Rosa (2010), How Poetry Saved my Life (2013), Where the Words End and My Body Begins (2015), Sodom Road Exit (2018), and My Art is Killing Me (2020).

(3/4) Sex-working lesbians (both cis and trans) exist, their occupation does not dictate their sexuality, and their safety and autonomy matter. In honour of #InternationalLesbianDay, promote and support both the lesbians in your life and who you admire.
sexworkhistorian.bsky.social
(2/4) Today serves as a reminder to advocate for an end to intersectional lesbophobia. Doing so means eliminating all intersecting oppressions, especially anti-sex worker stigma.
sexworkhistorian.bsky.social
(1/4) #InternationalLesbianDay recognizes and celebrates the history, contributions, and lived experiences of lesbians. It also raises awareness about the challenges they face, which include classism, sexism, ableism, fatphobia, transphobia and transmisia, racism(s), xenophobia, and whorephobia.
The Sex Work Historian International Lesbian Day infographic. The image says “love is love” in cursive lettering and features a heart with the colours of the pride flag. The background of the image is the lesbian pride flag. The image also features the Sex Work Historian logo (a grey peach) and a red umbrella (the international symbol for sex workers’ rights).

Are you a non-Black person pissed at Bluesky leadership and feeling a little jealous of all the good vibes coming from Blacksky?

There are Blacksky adjacent options for you! Here’s info from the Blacksky migration guide!

docs.blacksky.community/migrating-to...
Screengrab from Blacksky migration guide:

blacksky algorithms

A Warning: Anyone else using a blacksky.app handle will receive a warning at first and then a suspension.

Alternative PDSs for Everyone
Blacksky Algorithms also operates two other
PDSs that are open to anyone:
• myatproto.social - Open to all
• cryptoanarchy.network - Open to all

These servers run on the same infrastructure as blacksky.app and are maintained by the same team, but are available for anyone to use regardless of background.

I hear and see your concerns. Over the weekend, a couple users hosted on Blacksky's PDS were banned from the Bluesky app and thus the Bluesky API servers. This was a weakness of our system I've been aware of and hoped we had more time to address before any kind of public incident. 1/11

For many of us being a sex worker means being financially independent.. therefore avoiding and escaping situations of abuse, not only interpersonal abuse but also abuse by the state

BREAKING: Stephen Miller—both Trump Administration capo and de facto head of DHS, ICE, and DOJ, has just declared that peaceful protesters are "street terrorists." Under an executive order signed by Trump just days ago, that means he is saying that all protesters in America can be arrested on sight.

Fellow flotilla activists are alleging Greta Thunberg was horrifically mistreated in Israeli detention.

If this is how Israel treats a high-profile detainee like Greta Thunberg, I want you to consider how they treat Palestinian detainees.

You don’t have to imagine it. It’s been widely documented:

Also many use sexwork to escape from such situations. So the sexwork did not trigger the abuse, but the opposite.

PSA - October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Nearly 3 Women in the U.S. are killed by an intimate partner every single day.

There is a common misconception that sex workers cannot be survivors of domestic violence. But, research shows they experience DV at high rates due to the intersection of anti- sex worker stigma, criminalization, racism, queerphobia, and gendered stereotypes.

Yup. By criminalizing sex work, the state has made it harder for sex workers to find safety anywhere.
