“Whatever call we make about schools somebody is mad, so we have to use our best judgement,” says Bowser, speaking the truest truth ever spoken. (People on a DCPS group I’m a part of are currently mad that schools will reopen tomorrow.)

I’m so happy with all the snow! Winter is the best season. (Shoveling the snow wasn’t too too bad either.)

Me going to call my representative and remembering that I live in DC which famously lacks voting representation so we just get to keep watching things happen in Congress out of our control

Models have the snowiest signal we’ve seen in a while -- several suites even hitting double digits for DC. ❄️

Trend: snowier, odds of significant accumulation rising.

Caveat: 4–5 days out and multiple disturbances interacting. Still room for a shift.

❄️ Promising | ⚠️ Not locked in | 📅 Stay tuned

If Indiana wins tonight, Curt Cignetti will have more national titles than Bobby Hauck.

That actually reads weird thinking about it.

The placeholder bill + rule + related discharge petition remains one of the more interesting procedural innovations of last two congresses.
A new placeholder bill (and rule) to be used with a discharge petition in the future, replacing the one they used for the ACA subsidies bill:

It's the first legislative week of the year, and the House AND the Senate have both seen successful motions to discharge a committee. The 119th Congress, everyone.

This is absolutely a huge problem in protest culture and it’s a major obstacle to allowing protests to grow. People are turning up to protests to fight Trump, ICE, recent abuses. Invariably the speakers are going off about 200 years of stolen land or US imperialism, and many of those people leave.
I really agree with this—my stance is not “don’t bring in other issues” but “for the love of god, do NOT bring in other issues in a ham-fisted way that doesn’t illuminate the connection for someone who didn’t already agree”

I have seen ppl who were highly motivated to protest a particular thing…

I find this type of comment so elitist. It IS the most inconvenient and stressful form of long distance public transportation, yet people still use it in droves because they have no other choice. Are we going to just pretend that's not an insane class divide worth highlighting?

Highway robbery:

For non-members, less than seven minutes on an e-bike is more expensive than the subway. And even for Citi Bike members, a ten-minute e-bike ride is as expensive as the subway.

It's time for New York City to subsidize bike share and cap runaway Citi Bike prices
