Money is finite, hard to see how you can find $800 million annually to make busses free and also fund better service and streetscape improvements (ie BRT) that make busses faster.
shabazzstuart.bsky.social
A good assumption would be that if it’s a mayoral initiative, then the mayor will pay for it. The city already pays for fair fares, student passes and senior discounts.

The city already paid for a free bus pilot in each borough.

…the question really is what is the greatest use of that $800 million year or so. What good are free busses if the service is so bad that people don’t want to ride?
shabazzstuart.bsky.social
THe best arguments imo are that money that is spent on free busses should be spent on improving service, which is shown to be what riders prefer and leads to better outcomes.

Also, about 30-40% of bus trips are intermodal so the actual effect of free busses, especially w/o improving service…

I actually thought this was satire. There are good, real grounded arguments against free busses.

Cuomo has picked (easily) the most nonsensical one.

Around 15 years ago, I was arguing that this a terrible design and it shouldn’t be built. Now they’re shutting it down. Hate to be proven right this way! Listen to the technical transit advocates – they are always right, even if you are too allistic to see it.

More people in the “press” need to do work asking how “states rights conservatives” have gotten to this point.

New Yorkers are craving secure bike parking: this one small station has had 2,000 unique users in just two years!

More of these units — and larger facilities — will mean that more New Yorkers will have the peace of mind to try biking, without having to worry about theft.

Last month we celebrated the two year anniversary of Oonee Hudson Square with local BID.

Personally, on this journey I am most proud of the way that NYC communities have embraced our initial bike parking stations-- hard 2 believe that ppl were once skeptical bc they were afraid of blowback.

This was our most complex installation to-date, involving the complex installation of power access across the entrance to the Holland Tunnel. The project also included a new mural, plantings and public art.

I don't think so, it was just described as a "car crash" on the MTA alerts. I also cannot imagine that the NYPD would engage in a car chase on a narrow residential street in a densely populated neighborhood, but who knows...

Not sure. This was left there for a few hours a mater the crash occurred. I cannot imagine the NYPD would conduct a police chase on a narrow residential street but idk.

Today on Flatbush/Clarkson. This kind of wreckage should not be possible on residential streets.
