This is over in Rockingham County in Virginia, along I-81. As a fan of wine, I'm both pleasantly surprised and the tiniest bit horrified at how it's being stored.
finally made buc-ees pilgrimage & discovered they stock opus one

Sarge’s for breakfast. Back when we here over winter break and the Dining halls weren’t open and the team needed to be fed. I didn’t know where to go the first time Coach Holland said “Sarge’s”because I only knew it as The Tavern.

please tell me about your favorite lost restaurant (closed for at least 5 years, like I really want you to go back into the vault), why you loved it and what you ate there

I still have my "fan" that has Tom Smith on one side and Terry Holland on the other.

The Lefty Driesell ad, to Tom Smith: "Hey, didn't you used to coach at Virginia?"
Tom Smith was the CEO of Food Lion in the 80s and because he put himself in the company's ads, he was as much of a staple of winter Saturday afternoons as Dean Smith, Coach K or any favorite ACC player or coach.
My favorite Food Lion fact is that they went with “Food Lion” because it used to be “Food Town” and that way they could keep most of the letters on existing signs (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_Lion)

This is the second time this story has bubbled up to me. I wish there were something like this in Virginia. I feel like it would be helpful in the Bay and its tributaries.

Former UVA and AU assistant, not to mention Cornell big whistle, as well a friend of mine. My heart goes out to his family and all whose lives he touched.
Temple assistant men’s basketball coach Bill Courtney died suddenly at the age of 55, the school announced Tuesday morning.

Interesting read from @stillmikebarber.bsky.social. Last year’s squad definitely had talent. Looks like Dr. Williams made the right call in not retaining the interim head coach.
With Dai Dai Ames and Cal visiting JPJ tonight, here's a look at how the 'Hoos who transferred out of UVA basketball are doing this season.

The “Bricks for Bacon” campaign with Smithfield at UVA and Va Tech has been lots of fun.
that does sound like a fun idea but man I have no idea how I'd get that data for 300 schools without calling all of them. let me think about it once my Adderall kicks in this morning
it seems like a project for @mattbrown.bsky.social or @sickoscommittee.org but I wonder which cbb team has the best promotion for opponent missed FTs in the second half?

14th St. Corner Bridge (has it migrated here yet?)
Old Ivy underpass

And I'm stuck for #3?
Oh. Y'all. Charlottesville has at least two, one is just more prolific b/c it's by the university. There's also a third but that's more immediate surrounding county adjacent 🫠

The last entry for #LaundrySky2025 from the Storm household.

12/30 5 loads! (How do 3 boys generate so much dirty laundry over the holidays?)
12/31 The machines rest

365 days
390 loads

Thanks for following along. As the boys get bigger and stinkier, I'm sure this total will do nothing but go up.
13 days without an update. Yikes! Let's catch up:

12/19 2 loads
12/22 3 loads
12/23 2 loads
12/24 2 loads
12/27 3 loads
12/28 3 loads
12/29 2 loads

363 days
385 loads

#LaundrySky nears its end. The laundry itself, however, rolls on.

On our way to view the 2024 total eclipse, we stopped at a small museum in Ohio that housed many of Rockwell's Scout-themed paintings. One highlight among many for my @scoutingamerica.bsky.social -involved family!
What a quote.

"Martin announced the new norms in a pastoral letter that affirms the common posture of standing to receive holy Communion, encourages priests to offer Communion under both bread and wine more often, and calls for the broader use of trained laypeople to serve as Eucharistic ministers."

Please tell me why when my front-loading washing machine can’t spin fast enough to extrude water from the clothes it resets to 30 mins. & adds water to the clothes before spinning again? I just had a four-hour laundry cycle that only ended when I pulled out a couple of boy hoodies so it could finish

I’ll refer to my earlier post reminding everyone that Pope Leo XI’s statements can’t be mapped nicely onto USian politics. It’s not a surprise if he is paying more attention to the goings on in his home country than previous popes have paid to the U.S.
Pope Leo on Tuesday criticized the governor of the U.S. state of Illinois for signing a bill to allow some adults with a terminal illness to end their own lives with medical help, in an unusual political intervention by the church leader. For @reuters.com

We've still got some trees if you're last-minute hunting for one. Our stand is across the street from the Krispy Kreme and has a self-serve option if our scouts aren't there (in school or troop meetings or school plays or athletic contests -- you get the idea).
Local scouts were able to offer the same prices as last year on 90% of our trees. They’re moving fast if you’re interested in getting one.

It's been a big laundry week for reasons I don't understand. The snow that was forecasted did not arrive.

Oh, UVa, what were you thinking sending me three bills (because our dental insurance only covers one fluoride treatment per year per kid) and also sending us a letter requesting an end of year gift?

Consider the $135 for fluoride my end of year gift. I think we’re even.

A lot of what we recommend at LRPAC is modernizing schools, including fixing airflow as pointed out by @waldo.net. It can be expensive but if addressed regularly across all schools, it can improve student and employee performance.
Half of U.S. schools need to replace HVAC or plumbing systems. Most were built after WWII. Districts have cut renovation spending by $85 billion yearly since 2016. Yet research shows modernized schools optimize student and teacher performance. https://bit.ly/3MbPXsv

I'll probably have to bring this up at my next confession, but dropping a 14-minute homily at a:

1. Noon Mass, for a
2. Holy Day of Obligation, when
3: It's snowing and conditions are getting worse

is something that shouldn't have happened.
