Amusingly reminded of how the Queensland CHO basically killed Astra-Zeneca stone dead for the entire nation in one soundbite at a press conference
Fascinating and deeply satisfying resolution to why adenovirus-based vaccines produced blood clots in 1 out of 200,000 people.

Two factors interacted:
a mutation in an antibody gene + weak similarities between a viral protein & a human blood-clotting protein = induced clotting cascade.
Five years after the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines started, it seems the mystery of why the Astra-Zeneca and J&J vaccines led to a rare but deadly side effect of unusual blood clots and bleeding has finally been solved.

It's a fascinating case of molecular mimicry that may help make vaccine safer.🧪

I largely agree with this except for Richard Ford. I could read about Frank Bascombe’s suburban melancholy all day.
My primary problem with a lot of more serious literary fiction isn’t that it isn’t well written or compelling it’s just that a lot of it is about “I’m articulate and depressed” and I kind of want like, something to happen, I guess. I suppose I’m something of a philistine in that way.

Every now and then, when you reflect on the fact that Donald Trump has dominated American politics for a full 10 years and wrenched the course of history onto a darker track, it’s good to revisit this 2016 Onion article: theonion.com/trump-rememb...
Trump: ‘Remember, This Is Your Last Chance To Get Out Before This Goes Any Further’
CLEVELAND—After waiting for the cheers and loud chants of his name to die down, Donald Trump reportedly began his headlining speech Thursday night at the Republican National Convention by taking a mom...

Mmm, the obscure and Nazi-copyrighted style of facial hair known as a “moustache”
There is something weird and disturbing about how many NSW police in the footage of abuse of protesters have the Thomas Sewell facial hair.

Another mournful piece from the Age about Melbourne's supposed post-lockdown decline which, even as it correctly notes this is a result of hybrid working becoming normalised, does not bother to compare Melbourne's stats to any other Australian city www.theage.com.au/national/vic...
Are you part of Melbourne’s missing 20 per cent? Check how much foot traffic has dropped
Once Melbourne’s liveliest areas, these city zones have been transformed after they were abandoned by the CBD’s vanishing 20 per cent.

The one area where (annoyingly) I have found myself conceding to AI usage is Google results for quick questions, which is only the better option in the first place because Google completely fucked their primary product over the last ten years
fwooh! *rolling up sleeves* now that i've gotten my "i am trying to understand where you're coming from and empathize with it" thread out of the way, here's how i really feel:

anyone who uses AI is a fucking class traitor, a scab, and a boring naive idiot who doesn't realize they've been had 🤝

This is a perfectly reasonable viewpoint from the US which only underscores what a bad deal AUKUS has always been for Australia. It is good to have allies; it is not good to require paid bodyguards. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/f...

Nowhere near as serious in the UK, but it is really interesting to see exactly the same dynamics in the UK anti-fascist movement.

Deliberate attempts to narrow its support base as far as possible and to drive away normal people.

Entirely counterproductive to their stated goal - and revealing.
yeah if you have the kind of goals that are helped by getting more voters on your side, you might not want to listen to this guy.

apparently some people need to hear: if more voters had gotten on this side in 2024, Minneapolis wouldn't be filled with jump-out squads

There really could not be a starker demonstration between two factions here:
- Let’s get as many ordinary folks involved as possible, a mass movement is ultimately what will win
vs
- Professional antifa only plz, no normies allowed in our cool kids club
I never claimed to be a leader of anything, and I’m not, I’ve been doing what thousands of other Minnesotans have been doing. With that said I know why it’s working because I SEE IT WORK: because the observers are disciplined, committed, nonviolent, and open. Their channels are open and HUGE.
