This morning, on a street in Minneapolis, at least seven federal agents tackled and then shot and killed Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse for the local VA hospital.

The case might be moved to a federal court, but that would simply change the courthouse, judge and jury pool. State prosecutors would still be seeking to enforce state law — which means that any conviction would not be subject to the president’s pardon power.
