Retired NHS nurse, book lover, Rambler, Brummie, and frustrated writer. Currently busy despairing about the state of world, its politics and climate. This might be why I drink too much.

I find it telling that Rushbridger does occasional columns for the Independent. It makes me wonder of he doesn't like the drection The Guardian has gone, or they don't lime him.

Privileged economist gives his opinion about something that won’t affect him at all, but will plunge more people in to poverty and despair. When you’re not affected by the cost of living crisis, 1p tax increase is the same as a 3p tax rise apparently. We should all be willing to suffer 🤡
Lots of Labour despair on the timeline today.
The next election is likely more than three years away. The route to winning it starts by acknowledging that some more short term pain is probably required to get into a position where victory is possible.
This budget is going to be painful. But 1/3
Following that both both the next Labour Government and the next episode of Dr Who will be bitter disappointments that will prove unpopular with the public.
But it never stops them getting more government contracts does it?
(Cough) Winson Green ie HMP Birmingham taken over by G4S, 5 years later after 2 riots and general chaos they had to hand it back. Incompetent bastards... let's give then more prisons to mess up.
Apart from the ones who know the vaccines will kill you stuff is BS and make sure they and their family are fully up to date. The worst of the worst.

I wonder if Sarah Pochin ever gets as worked up about the overrepresentation of multimillionaire, privately educated elites in her own party…

What Sarah Pochin MP sees when the Chase is on.
The only good thing you can say about him is 'he isn't Wes Streeting'.
That post of mine is nearly a year old. Well, 10 months later I'd writing what you have. Starmer is so much worse than even I expected

By American fascism and their pathetic little puppets, like you.
While there are so many things to be gloomy about, at least we seem to be having an amazingly colourful autumn.
I am not sure Harold Wilson would be too impressed either, seeing the higher education system that he expanded and opened up to people like me being turned into money grabbing debt machine.
Well, I was treating myself to a latte and a Pumpkin Spice Doughnut at Greggs after a busy grocery shop, when what do I see? Only a guy from Costa (in company tee-shirt) coming in for a coffee on his break. Says it all.

How fast do you think you could get the Epstein Files?

Labour can't even do its Brexit shift competently. Say it was wrong and you can make Farage carry the can. Say it was badly executed, as Labour is doing, and you support his narrative that Leave voters were betrayed.

It would be funny - except we'll all have to carry the can for their incompetence.
I wonder if the worst of our politicians who came out to back this bunch of thugs right to riot will now apologise. Mind you the Guardian might want to look at the insight of their football reporter Barney Ronay who also peddled this line.

Are you thinking about they should do a lot of lame trade deals with countires on the other side of the globe that we don't do much business with. That must be the answer surely.
We really are here in Handsworth. Also Zac did a great Benjamin Zephaniah inspired reply to Robert Jenrick from our park
Also policy wise Labour is now to the right of the Lib Dems ... can't say I see the hope either.
That must have been an even bigger shock than learning I had numerous children with new phone numbers. I had no knowledge of any of them! Sadly my life has not been one of such hedonistic excess that that was even remotely likely.
