Quiet in the House is a psychological horror film about four women inspired and tormented by their manipulative theater director–and an unseen supernatural force. It's about performance, fantasy, sadomasochism, gender, & how you get a poltergeist.

i can tell that my instagram network is far more Great Lakes-centric than my bluesky one because over there today it’s at least solidly 40% Edmund Fitzgerald

i had cause in class today to try and articulate how interacting with Michael Shannon in person is very particular because of his height and overall physicality, which i did by blurting out the phrase “it feels like standing next to a horse”

a thing about me is that i think about the Carl Sandburg poem "Chicago" approximately six times a week, alongside the line from his contemporary, Nelson Algren, when he says loving Chicago is "Like loving a woman with a broken nose, you may well find lovelier lovelies. But never a lovely so real."
Ellis starting the day off by reading out Carl Sandburg's poem "Chicago" in its entirety.

i’m in an art-making seminar at a research university with a group of academics who largely don’t have previously existing artistic practices, which means i am duty bound to try my best to give them The Art School Experience (finding out what your classmate’s personal fetishes are)

i am so overworked i didn’t get to many horror movies this october, but i did have the 😱 halloween experience of my vibrator’s motor kicking the bucket—then several minutes later scaring the hell out of me by briefly roaring back to life before dying for good, like a damn slasher villain

idly wondering whether one outcome of doing a dissertation on clowns in cinema will be my some day saying in a professional conference setting "while there are elements of his craft and grit I can begrudgingly admire, Damien Leone can't write for shit and seems like a real asshole who hates women"

does anyone have recommendations of academic journals that regularly publish reviews of books of *film criticism*, that are quality journals but also very open to pitches/submissions from ""early career scholars"" with no publication history?
