I keep coming back to the fact that views are monetized incentivizing posting the most horrendous crap so it gets people to qt, outraged or otherwise.

The replies to this tweet were recommended to me when I opened the app. The people making these replies are making hundreds or thousands of dollars off them - they're monetized and look how much engagement they're getting. It's become a fullbore funding mechanism for white supremacy.

Twitter has become a terminal cancer for our country, a neverending crisis pouring the worst kind of bigotry imaginable into the public mind, and no one will even talk about it. Most of our elites in journalism and politics still rely on it!
