I always miss #portfolioday on twitter, so I guess it makes sense to be on time for bluesky. Anyways, I'm Skooba and I am an artist whose also currently learning game dev and trying to do his own solo projects!

if you see this, post a birb

(super SUPER old commission for a dear friend and maybe the only one I did with a bird in it all these years)

Trying to figure out the animation tree a bit in godot, my biggest hurdle is of course, math... I think i need to dot product of my input and the facing vector of the player here, but thats breaking my brain. All i can get is blue steel on direction turn that resembles a cramp.

Post your most popular art from Twitter

I dont know exactly which one did better but its always the #criticalrole crowd that gasses my art up the most, I just wish they'd still do the slide shows during intermission 😔

The game dev community on bluesky so far has been hands down absolutely amazing. Way more welcoming than reddit hahaha you guys are awesome, i appreciate ya'll
The final deformation vector = deformation direction * amount. Additionally the deformation vector is dependent on height, so the root is not affected.

Deformed grass is highlighted

Code attached, I hope it's readable.

Someone in chat asked about proportions so I sketched up my shorthand landmarks for a pretty basic character. These aren't hard set rules, just my personal prefs.

Can promise that all my projects are 100% free of GenAI.

GRIDHACK contains no GenAI.

#COGITO contains no GenAI (and I will soon add a policy to it due to it's open source nature).
I really love the indie game scene, so much. Indie developers make the best coolest new stuff and many of not most are highly resistant to AI, so you can just enjoy it with no barriers up 😚
all the news is making me want to explode so instead can you all tell me about your favorite human creators and why you love them???

(you know this is serious bc I am opening up my replies to everyone lol)

Ok its very subtle but now you can have an effect while moving through grass. If i overdo it, its bad...and I'd like to make more of a 'stamped down' effect so its not just a radius. I think i know the concept of what to do but now -how- exactly...

Here's the grass shader with wind added to it. I need something thats a bit more scattered and less straight on so that'll take more tweaking. Then do add some effects to the players position 🧐

Script on MeshInstance of grass/ script, process mode commented out for now, turns red in its own scene, no effect in terrain 3d scene (commented out player position for now cause i just want to see if its actually being run and its not, no print function showing up even)

Anyone using terrain3d with Godot? I’m trying to get player interact with a script on my meshinstance of the grass but it doesn’t seem the script is executing when used with T3d but it works in a scene by itself to pass parameters to the grass shader. Shader works in T3d alone.

Different types of grass tested out, still got more work to do to keep refining what i like and dont like, next up is wind and player effects on it (Thank you to everyone whose helped so far! I still dont understand shaders much, but its making a little more sense)

Grass Test number 2, instead of vertex stuff, I just modeled clumps in blender and set the UVs to a gradient. Looks better but not great, i know some wind shader stuff will help, but I think I'm gonna try more styles too.

I tried to do grass with a subdivided plane and some vertex shader stuff after looking at the godot docs on shaders, but I think its probably incredibly inefficient compared to just making cards? Also doesnt look super great, maybe needs more tweaking
