Happy Friday, bluesky. In a rare moment of sharing something that’s NOT research or fiber art, here’s the new album from my band. Hope you like it.

Thank you!! Yeah, that was an experiment with double weave pickup which is VERY fun, I want to do more of it.

And I haven’t had a chance yet to also thank you for the amazing print! It’s bringing some much-needed Good Energy to my office :)

So much awful shit is happening, but one year ago I had my first weaving class and I remain unbelievably grateful for the chance to experiment, to make things slowly and intentionally, mistakes and all. Always thankful for the #DHmakes community, too!

Sure. AI companies have ALWAYS been training their models on Wikipedia content, which under the free and open access model is available to anyone — including AI companies. Agreements like these require AI companies to limit and offset the strain they place on Wikimedia infrastructure.
Hoping that @molly.wiki can help explain.

#DHmakes 19th-c knitting patterns from the Newberry!
Knitting Nurses!

Prompted by @sarahebull.bsky.social yesterday I poked around #NewberryLibrary for 20th c. knitting patterns. These WWII Red Cross directions for a MAN'S SOCK from May 1942 looks to have been used by nurses or housewives to create at least 13 pairs for the war effort! #FiberArts

There are people who don't know, who didn't know. Moments like these are when they learn, and a window opens for people who want to turn their hunger for justice into action, for our numbers to increase. Stay mad and don't get jaded, in my opinion, get the newly passionate on board. 2/2

Interdisciplinary research ftw…!
Really interesting research showing that while ultra-specialization in a single discipline might lead to better results early in one’s career, multi-discipline training and practice pays off big time in the long run. This applies to a range of professions from scientists to athletes and more

So delighted that one of my favorite thinkers & writers engaged with my new preprint on empathy 🥰

By far one of the best parts of being an academic is putting ideas out into the world and seeing them refracted through other minds, who help you see things more richly than you did before.
"We face a social dilemma around the role of these empathy machines. Those who are most cognitively vulnerable may turn to these tools when what they most need is a flesh-and-blood human who will care for them, not sycophantically, but with thick empathy arising from the experience of being human."

"ICE and CBP must be abolished" is the only reasonable position. We can debate the specifics of new agencies for immigration functions, but these agencies are simply too infected with a culture of impunity, racism, and fascism to continue. They're gangs with badges.
Armed ICE agents trapped US citizens in a restaurant and demanded their papers. Federal agents walked into East African restaurants in Cedar-Riverside, MN. They closed and blocked the doors. Then they demanded to see everyone’s papers. Every person present was a US citizen.

It has been so much FUN to think with @profdancy.bsky.social, @snblickhan.bsky.social , Tiffanie R. Smith, and @bcgl.bsky.social & many others. Getting to dream & plan alongside these courageous people has been a real ray of hope in this otherwise horrible moment.
