A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:
Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

We were incredibly disappointed and outraged to hear about the layoffs and cancellations announced by Ubisoft last week. Hundreds of workers have been put into an incredibly stressful and precarious position. We stand in solidarity with our fellow game workers at CFE-CGC, CGT, Printemps Écologique, Solidaires Informatique, and STJV as they prepare for a massive international strike in February. Game workers are the backbone of the industry, yet they continue to face an unstable and unfair working environment. The games we love cannot be made without the hard work of game workers around the world. Solidarity with those at Ubisoft.

Ubisoft is no more, long live Ubisoft! On January 21, 2026, Yves Guillemot announced the end of remote work, closure of several studios, cancellation of projects, and a new 200€ million “cost-cutting” plan. We were informed of this at the same time as the press — as none of these changes had been discussed during the mandatory consultations with the works councils a few days earlier! On January 26, 2026, management announced the implementation of a voluntary departure plan that will affect 200 people at Ubisoft’s headquarters. We are promised autonomy for « Creative Houses », but what about autonomy for employees? We have been negotiating for over a year on remote work policy, sometimes under difficult conditions. An agreement has been in place since September in some studios. Trampled underfoot! We are told about responsibilities, but those who wield this word so easily do not take any responsibility for the consequences of their catastrophic management. We are not fooled: rather than taking financial responsibility for layoffs, they prefer to push us out by making our working conditions unbearable. It’s outrageous. It is because we love Ubisoft that this situation revolts us. Ubisoft’s unions are calling for a massive international strike by all Ubisoft employees on the 10th, 11th and 12th of February 2026. NO to their anti-remote-work obsession to “cost-cutting” plans on employees’ backs to top-down decisions to coercive control on our working conditions YES to our leaders truly taking their responsibilities to management’s duty of sincerity in the face of its failings It is time for our management to understand that they cannot do whatever they want, whether with public money or the work of hundreds of people! Without us, Ubisoft would never have conquered and transformed video games as it has. WE ARE UBISOFT.

Ubisoft n’est plus, vive Ubisoft ! Le 21 janvier 2026, Yves Guillemot annonce la fin du télétravail, la fermeture de plusieurs studios, l’annulation de plusieurs projets et un nouveau plan « d’économie » de 200 millions d’euros. Nous l’apprenons en même temps que la presse – alors qu’aucun de ces changements n’étaient abordés lors des consultations obligatoires des CSE quelques jours plus tôt ! Le 26 janvier 2026, la direction annonce la mise en place d’un plan de départ volontaire qui va impacter 200 personnes au siège. On nous promet l’autonomie des « Creative Houses » mais quid de celle des salarié·es ? Nous avons négocié pendant plus d’un an le télétravail, dans des conditions parfois difficiles. Un accord est en vigueur depuis septembre dans certains studios. Piétiné ! On nous parle de responsabilités, mais celles et ceux qui brandissent ce mot si facilement n’assument aucune conséquence de leur gestion catastrophique. Nous ne sommes pas dupes : plutôt que d’assumer financièrement des licenciements, on préfère nous pousser vers la sortie en rendant nos conditions de travail insupportables. Indigne. C’est parce que nous aimons Ubisoft que cette situation nous révolte. Les organisations syndicales d’Ubisoft appellent à une grève massive et internationale de tous·tes les employés d’Ubisoft les 10, 11 et 12 février 2026. STOP à l’obsession anti-télétravail aux plans « d’économie » uniquement sur le dos des salariés aux décisions jupitériennes au contrôle coercitif de nos conditions de travail OUI à l’acceptation de leurs responsabilités par nos dirigeants au devoir de sincérité de la direction face à ses manquements Il est temps pour notre direction de comprendre qu’elle ne fait pas ce qu’elle veut, que ce soit avec les bénéfices de l’argent public ou le travail de centaines de personnes !
