YEAH. I had the same experience as a little kid. I remember *almost* not making the connection between the pronunciation I heard and what was written on the map being the Same Town. Very much a delayed '....hey wait a second.' kind of moment.

Refugio, Texas. It isn't pronounced how it looks in English. It ALSO isn't pronounced like the Spanish word refugio. There is a secret third pronunciation.
