No war with Venezuela. Stop the attacks on civilians, invasion of another country, and the demonization of Venezuelans in Venezuela and in the US. Fuck this.

FOUR new deaths in ICE detention. That puts the total this year at 30 people dead; the highest in ICE's history and worse than even during the COVID years.

It's clear that the system is breaking down. Many of these are preventable deaths.
In the 90 minutes since I posted this, I've gotten two more death notifications.

ICE has a responsibility to take care of these people, something they are clearly disregarding. This is beyond horrifying. We must ensure dignity and humanity for detained people in this country.
Within 15 minutes today, I got two back-to-back notifications of deaths at ICE facilities.

28 people have died in ICE custody since Trump took office. These facilities are overcrowded & are putting their own profits over health and safety. We need oversight & accountability NOW.

This is wild- shelter beds (for adults) empty while families are waiting 6-9+ months for shelter space. Yet more family shelter, let alone trauma informed and secure family shelter, is not a meaningful part of the city's shelter bed spree 🤔

This generational trauma ICE is inflicting will reverberate for longer than we realize, in ways we can only begin to imagine.
ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

While PDX warzone claims are absurd, the response does feel like it masks both profound scarcity & violence of poverty here (family shelter wait-list has 100s of fams waiting months to sleep inside) &the destruction of other communities through war&extraction to create relative US wealth and peace.
I'm going to sound like the biggest hater & loser in the world and I know we must do our political performance but the "look at my war ravaged Portland" photos especially from politicians are getting a little 😬 when we have crisis levels of people without housing including unknown numbers of kids

Trump announced that he’s directing federal troops to Portland. Portlanders look after each other, and that’s how we’re going to overcome these threats.🧵

✅Report suspected federal agent sightings to PIRC’s hotline (1-888-622-1510) instead of spreading rumors on social media.

I actually don’t think we should victim blame protestors for what the feds are going to do. We’ve seen them do it to perfectly peaceful protestors.

People need to be wise, use discretion, and center those most impacted, and I truly detest this rhetoric.

Via PIRC: As many of you may have heard by now, tonight, Mayor Wilson and City of Portland officials held a press conference about that an unknown number of federal agents recently arrived in Portland today, September 26. (1/8)

We are currently in touch with 3 families sleeping on the street in Multnomah county- seeking shelter every day waitlists are 6-12 months long. This is a critical investment & will only chip away at the need. We must commit to ending childhood unsheltered homelessness, housing for all!
For families experiencing homelessness, having a safe and welcoming place to stay can be the first step to long-term stability. Creating more options for families is a priority of mine, and I’m glad we’re working quickly to fill a critical gap in East County for those who need shelter and support.

Trigger Warning: Suicide
1/2 On #WorldSuicidePreventionDay (9/10), we remember that suicide in immigration detention is not inevitable—it’s preventable. Detention isolates community members and puts their lives at deadly risk—that’s why deportation defense is suicide prevention.

We're seeing the impacts of increased immigration filing fees from Trump's budget (the 'big beautiful bill') with immigrant families we're in touch with in Oregon who are being forced to choose between paying for work permits and paying their rent, keeping lights on, or putting food on the table.
