Yikes indeed. After multiple quarters of success in bringing down backlogs, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is taking a turn for the worse.

The latest data shows that in the first six months of 2025, total net backlogs rose 26%, up by 1.1 million pending applications (of all kinds).

I spent 2 semesters in The Towers! I loved it so much!

16th Floor North Tower. The only downside to it was the walk back up the stairs after someone set off the fire alarm at night (probably smoking hookah, I imagine…).

Cougar Place used to be summer camp style cabins meant to only last 5 years. It lasted 30 years. The stairs and support beams were rusting away. It would always flood.

I remember living at University of Houston’s old Cougar Place dorms. It had no dehumidification. It *smelled* humid. I had a bad cough the entire time I was there. The health center’s doctor just shrugged and said sometimes people cough.
