Nerve pain is psychedelic in the worst way. The way flexing your right foot can cause an electric jolt in your left thigh. I'm trying to be curious about it and pretend I enjoy the discoveries.

I successfully ate ravioli today. 💪

Hear me out, motivational merch for oral surgery patients and their families with the slogan "You Can Chew It!"

Been thinking a lot about slowness and ambiguity as rebellion. Quote is fire.
Some inspiring words on cinema in the streaming era from the Pope.

Yes, THAT Pope.

Keep spazzing which to put on: Anna von Hausswolff, Rosalía, or Juana Molina. Ridic musical bounty these past two weeks have delivered.

Every day after sunset during summer + fall hundreds of thousands of bats leave the their roost near Sacramento, CA to feed

A family of Swainson's hawks waits for them for their own dinner.

Due to the light they're hard to photograph.

Last night one caught a bat less than 30 feet in front of me 🪶

TIL "Baba O'Riley" was partly named after the composer Terry Riley, which super makes sense (the intro sounds like his work).

Painting over a mediocre candies-and-pastries still life from college. Just intuitive doodling. It's a lot of fun.

Sometimes, ads are insane enough that I actually really like them.

Learning more about Hitler's life pre-power, and dude was pathetic, whiny, and lazy. The idea he was an ubermensch and my grandmother who graduated medical school and swam across alpine lakes was of an inferior race, I dunno man

Kathy Sledge doing a surprise performance at SF Pride Roller Disco melted my heart into a puddle; I love SF and I love Sister Sledge and I love the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence and I love LGBTQ community and I even love awkwardly hobbling around a rink while getting sunburned. 🙏❤️

My dad introduced me to, like, Wild Strawberries, Paris Texas, Picnic at Hanging Rock, Twin Peaks, Kurt Vonnegut, The Third Man, Chinatown, ... so picking a "best" is hard.
Okay you guys, what’s the best book, movie, or TV show your dad introduced you to

May I recommend not listening to Who Knows Where the Time Goes while watching your old cat fast asleep, looking uncannily kittenish, unless you’re wilfully seeking a confrontation with the almost unbearable joy & sorrow of loving all mortal beings

I resist the urge to reskeet every outrageous article, but man... I really do not like the Trump administration! It needs OUT.

Star Wars is smarter than Star Trek. (Watching "Andor" and "Strange New Worlds" simultaneously.)

- At the checkout counter, people sometimes partake in a ritual of handing the cashier money that the cashier hands right back. (Didn't understand change.)

- Bright moving lights in the sky at night are usually rocketships.
“Bizarre things you firmly believed when a kid” is one of my favorite genres and I firmly believe we all have excellent examples if we can remember them

On the one hand, this feels like too little, too late, yet it also seems to be a sign that the tide is genuinely turning in the institutional American Jewish world: www.jta.org/2025/04/02/u...

It's cute to like Democrats when you're young and idealistic, but eventually you mature and realize your stock portfolio needs the steady hand of a coldly rational Republican administration.

Overheard in the bathroom:

- What's that?
- Those are tampons. They're for periods.
- Do you have periods mommy?
- Yeah.
- How long?
- Since I was 12 -- or maybe 11.
- Oh no, oh no, oh no, 11 is very long!

No room for nihilism. Better to be deluded and doing shit than lulled into inaction.
We have changed the trajectory of future warming over the course of my lifetime. The worst-case climate scenarios are no longer likely. That’s not due to modeling uncertainty; it’s because of activism. No one gets to erase that just because they find a perverse comfort in the certainty of defeat.
