I'm LunchMeat and these are my Meatheads. Begun when I was an idiot teen, I return to them in my mid/late 30s as a way of dealing both with the existential horror of the modern world (the cartoony scream and fragmentation of human features) and fighting AI images (by being a mess)

I think the best way that visual artists in traditional mediums are going to fight back against AI images (at least, at the start) is by looking at what AI can't do, the same way painters had to do with photography before. The most obvious answers to this are, so far, that AI can't make real world paintings and it can't make organic human mistakes that look natural. With that in mind, I try to be as messy and carefree with these paintings while also maintaining some elements that would be recognized as traditional styles and techniques. Also, they are fun. The main thing for me is I like them and they are fun. They wouldn't be worth doing otherwise and would just be straight political art and I would be far angrier as a person. I think most people who pay attention to what's going on in the world today are absolutely experiencing some form of spiritual/mental/existential crisis. I think lots of folks would agree with me about that, too. These paintings are my way of addressing that directly, both my own feelings of it and to act as a sort of mirror for others. Showing us our own inner state and our own fractured sense of being. I try to keep things cartoony specifically as a reminder that there is a comedic element to all this tragedy and that we are sympathetic critters at the end of the day. I need that reminder for myself as much as I think others do. By mixing abstraction, cartoons, graffiti, and the occasional landscape into my work, I am bringing my artistic inspirations and backgrounds all together. That's it. That's the long and short of it. I title my pieces in ways that I hope cause people to take a second look at the painting and rethink what might be being displayed. If I can bring them in with the image, get them a second time with the title, then maybe JUST MAYBE I can also get them to engage with and question more of what's going on in the art and in themselves. That's my hope anyway. It's a tricky goal to reach, not going to lie. And I kinda suck at it lol

I'm so sad that there are kids who would have enjoyed drawing who will never learn now because they'll literally say "why bother I can do it with AI" even though it's like squishing turds into the vague shape of a thanksgiving dinner and calling it food

Long-eared Owl - Description in alt text

The long-eared Owl is a slim and long winged owl with erectile ear tufts, which are positioned closer to the center of the head than in many other types of owl. The purposes of ear tufts are not definitively known and are present in about half of living owls. A theory amongst biologists and ornithologists is that ear tufts could be a means of intraspecies communication of intent and mood. In general coloration, the long-eared owl is a hue of ochraceous-tawny with a grayish or brownish wash variably manifesting. The base color is overlaid with variable blackish vertical streaks (and occasionally spots), which are more apparent about the wings and back. The scapulars are marked whitish, which provide further contrast when seen against the base color and blackish markings.
