Jeanne d'Arc (Joan of Arc), 1921, by Céline Lepage (1882–1928), chryselephantine, bronze with golden patina on a marble base, 48.5 cm, collection of RAW Modern. #arthistory #womenartists #womanartist #Art
From Art UK: “Joan of Arc was a significant figure in fifteenth-century French history for claiming divine visions guiding her to save France and the reign of Charles VII at Reims during the Hundred Years’ War. The artist portrays Joan of Arc in chryselephantine – a technique blending gold and ivory – highly esteemed in ancient Greece and often used to represent deities and significant religious figures. This choice not only aligns with Jeanne d’Arc’s symbolism but also elevates her to a divine status, emphasising the significance of the medium over Lepage’s usual preference for bronze. Thus, the sculpture embodies themes of courage, and faith, symbolising bravery, devotion, and nationalism. The depiction of Jeanne wielding a sword accentuates her revered status, akin to a deity.“

In 1947, some Hollywood stars including Henry Fonda stood up to anti-communist witch hunts.

Now, Jane Fonda and artists like Viola Davis, Pedro Pascal and Billie Eilish are reviving their organization — the Committee for the First Amendment — to defend free speech again.

Jane Fonda, other stars, revive the Committee for the First Amendment – a group that emerged when the anti-communist panic came for Hollywood
Even after the original group fizzled, many of its members were able to keep making films with progressive messages.

Back when i advocated for science and evidence based practices in parenting (mainly), anti-vaxxers would straight up tell me they would rather have their kid die from the measles than have Autism.

I can’t understand that amount of backwards

All of these conversations and boogeymen for Autism does is make neurotypical folk have more of a sense that Autism is a less favorable outcome than risks posed by avoiding medications and intervention.

It gets so hard defending you and your child’s existence as a beneficial thing.

Sometimes I feel like a beater car where everything vibrates in a scary way when you get to highway speeds. 😆 It’s like welp, we’re moving! Still going! Not sure how long it’s gonna last!

It absolutely does. I did this a few years ago to add some little “ditches” to help water flow away from the house and still have paths.

It’s a lot of brain energy and planning.

Tiny painting for the Canvas Project. My prompt was “Perform”

Watercolor and ink on canvas 2017(?)

Small square painting with three scenes intertwining. A woman is at a microphone singing, another woman is dancing flamenco, and a couple is swing dancing in the spotlight in the background between the other two.

Most of the leaves here don’t change colors. But we finally have a cooler breeze that reminds us summer is gone.
Here’s a little bird’s nest I found above where i sit yesterday.🫀

With love, from Texas
A little bird’s nest tucked on a low branch of a tree.

The sequel should clearly be Die Harder.

That’s beautiful. We didn’t talk specifically about the Amish, but did talk about how there are communities who still keep those supportive practices. 🫀

We’ve just pushed it so far away in modern mainstream society.

Absolutely. That and dance battles. 🙃🫀
