Why am I such a fan of Abigail Spanberger? Because she embodies everything I love and respect in politicians.

A thread:

The best politicians are public servants. Spanberger did two hard and risky jobs for the Republic. She was federal law enforcement with USPIS, and she was a CIA officer overseas.
I will try to clarify.

Technically, the only thing EO 10 does is rescind Youngkin's EO 47. Nothing more, nothing less.

This was like 30 minutes after the parade ended lol.

Just moving inside and changing outfits must have required some urgency.

It's official. She took the oath.

Then the National Guard fired cannons and flew jets overhead.

Now she's about to give her speech.

Colbert's other guest is Jimmy Kimmel. So it's gonna some dangerously high levels of Mainstream Establishment Lib energy.

If Abigail endorses someone, then I endorse them as well.

But also, I used to be Elizabeth's constituent and she was great! Like Abigail says, she was responsive and effective.
I’m excited to have earned Governor-Elect @abigailspanberger.com’s endorsement in my campaign for SD-39! I’ve known Governor-Elect Spanberger for nine years, and I have been inspired by her career and work.

This is an important barrier she broke. One that still stands in West Virginia and Maryland, among other states.

But my main takeaway from this is the video where they ask her about Trump and Maduro, and it keeps zooming in on "Sic Semper Tyrannis" on the state seal.

If you haven't entered the ticket lottery for the inauguration yet, maybe this parade lineup will convince you. You'll have Guardsmen, cadets, cops, firefighters, scouts, fife & drums, marching bands, dance teams, all the college mascots, and a lot more.

On one hand this is super morbid and pessimistic; on the other hand I'm just excited by the idea of President Spanberger in '44.
Excited for the day in 2046 when president Spanberger finally brings the last troops home from Venezuela and the entire press corps complains that she didn’t do it in the perfect way and they were really seeing the light at the end of the tunnel this time.

As we enter the new year, I should set expectations for this account.

I'll still focus on Abigail, as she takes begins governing. I won't focus on the 2026 races, except as they relate to her.

And while I will be truthful and insightful, this is still an account for stanning, not objectivity.

Without wading into a very long thread, she kind of did. It was relentless. And other traditional Dem priorities were minimized or ignored.

There were negative attacks on Winsome Earle-Sears being a hard right social conservative, but Abigail's own priorities were entirely about affordability.
Spanberger didn't focus exclusively on affordability.

The relentless focus on affordability continues. She doesn't mention Trump or Washington once.

I also liked her nuanced answer on being a historic first, breaking the glass ceiling for women.

Looking forward to the companion piece on Monday, about her intel career.

Spanberger won an unprecedentedly large victory in a swing state. Zohran won big in a solid blue city.

But this whole idea that they had two distinct messages is wrong.

They both focused heavily on the biggest issue of the day: Affordability.
Spanberger is nothing special and ran at a convenient time against a worse opponent. it’s backhanded nonsense to run this “there’s room for both” line when it’s *very* clear who ran the more significant and inspirational campaign and who represents the future of the party.

It's refreshing to have someone focused on policies that will improve people's lives, instead of flashy stunts and culture war stuff.
December 18, 2025 at 11:53 PM
This makes sense given that they were both in the House class of 2018. That's often what it comes down to, not just ideology.

Great pictures of Spanberger with the NoVA congressional delegation.
Today, I was honored to join my Virginia delegation colleagues for the Congressional statue dedication honoring Barbara Rose Johns.

Her courage and leadership helped expand opportunity for generations of students.

She will represent the Commonwealth proudly in the halls of Congress.

Two absolute queens.

Most of the reasons I like Abigail so much, also apply to Elissa Slotkin.
So good to catch up with Governor-elect @SpanbergerforVA today. We will get through this moment in our history with two things: engaged citizens and principled leaders. And Spanberger is one of those principled leaders ready to move the ball down the field.

Abigail's latest post on Instagram, wishing the National Guard a happy birthday. Officially 389 years old today.

I love this look... the dark blazer and the flag brooch. Usually she's wearing shades of blue, or her red and purple blazers.

As a fan of pragmatism, liberalism, good governance, federal LE, the CIA, girl bosses, Virginia and elections, Spanberger really is a dream come true.

We're getting specials to replace Mundon King, Hashmi, and Michael Jones (running to replace Hashmi).

And the cabinet is less than half full.
Delegate Candi King will serve in critical role of Secretary of Commonwealth in Spanberger administration

That means another special election!

Her Prince William County seat was Harris +35% so should be an easy hold

Virginia is for election lovers!

I am glad that, at least in Virginia, you had former Republican legislators who saw the threat posed by Trump and embraced the Dem tickets.

No half measures where they're criticizing both sides, just Full Send on Spanberger and voting blue.
Good to see. Just a few more weeks and Virginia will have a MASSIVE upgrade in the Governor's Mansion, from Youngkin to Spanberger. Can't wait! bluevirginia.us/2025/12/mond... h/t @DavidIRamadan
