I'm writing a book about the rise of reactionary movements in Western geek culture, particularly since the beginning of the internet until now, and how we got stuck in this shitty alt-white meme-fash tech-dystopia within a mere 25 years: Article thread! 1/🧵

Psychologically western is when the CSAM machine works
“Psychologically Western.” In the Gilded Age, America’s elite embraced the pseudoscience of eugenics to justify their own sense of superiority and provide backing for racist and anti-immigrant policies. Pretty rich for Musk and his internet-broken brain to be judging the psyches of others.

My latest column in the @australia.theguardian.com offers the suggestion that the democracies of the world can do better than rolling over for a Bond Villain cosplayer - and the obscene outrage of Grok is our shared opportunity.

Are we the baddies just because we got so annoyed at a woman talking back to us that we shot her three times in the head and then punished the hospital for treating her?

Nazis invading the frozen north in the winter, it's funny how history rhymes
To any ICE agents reading this who are from down south—you have never experienced anything like this cold. Our European climate equivalent is literally Stalingrad. It will hurt to breathe. You will be outside in it. So will we, but we are used to it.

Next week is what will break you.
We've lead charmed weather lives so far in January.
Temperatures are +5F to +10F across MN so far this month. 🌡️
We're about to be reminded what persistent cold and occasional snow feels like. ❄️
MSP could bottom out -10 to -20 next Tue.

After reading about how this bestselling Covid revisionism book mishandled data and quotes in the most comically incompetent way, I listened to @michaelhobbes.bsky.social If Books Could Kill podcast episode about it and reflected on the time I did a similar thing as an idiot 20ish years ago
Why Do Covid Revisionists Need to Fabricate Evidence to Make Their Case?
If the evidence is so strong, why make it up? It may not be as nefarious as you think.

The Supreme Court tells Trump he cannot commit a crime, Trump tells ICE they cannon commit a crime, and tells the military it is their duty to commit crimes.
This is not the language of the government of a free country.

One of Scott Adams very final acts on this Earth was to share a tweet that talks at length about why Renee Good deserved to die because she couldn't be classified as human to begin with. He truly left this world choking on hatred. Just drowning in it.

So Elon Musk says he's going to file for full custody of Ashley St Clair's son, and the reason he cites is that her attempt to make amends about past bigotry toward trans people is evidence that she is going to forcibly transition a baby. He thinks NOT being transphobic is, itself, child abuse.

I don't know how many times I'm going to need to hear it before I finally get used to the phrase "planned invasion of Greenland"
I'm hearing about this in a few states. My big question is whether it is preparation for a crackdown on resistance to ICE operations, or a preemptive crackdown on anti war protesters after the planned invasion of Greenland
my friend is a postal worker in minneapolis and they all got letters at work today to show to police to prove they are essential workers authorized to be out. i guess we're to the "papers please" era now officially.

What the fuck does he need charity for??? He's not in any legal trouble, he will never be in any legal trouble. He's probably going to be given the Medal of Honor. He has the full support of the US government. People will really just give their savings to this guy because he shot a woman.
NEW: It appears billionaire Bill Ackman has donated $10k to a GoFundMe for Jonathan Ross, the ICE agent who killed Renee Good.

Ackman has reposted the fundraiser but hasn’t posted about his own donation.

The Trump picture is one thing but why did they use his angry face?

The use of an image of Trump on the 2026 pass — rather than the usual picture of nature — has sparked a backlash, sticker protests, and a lawsuit from a conservation group.
