Watching a video about Twin Peaks: The Missing Pieces and both people talking make it clear that they do not understand the reference when Jack the diner character says "Now, her name is Irene and it is night. Don’t take it any further than that. There’s nothing good about it." Beyond flabbergasting

One thing I would really like as an appreciator of Rod Stewart's voice is if fewer of his songs contained slurs and/or explicit references to sexual encounters with minors. Most of the rock stars of that era were creeps but some of them really leaned into it as part of the music

Ferris Bueller's Week Off. A near-retirement Ferris realizes the PTO for his commercial real estate banking job doesn't rollover to the new year and plans a last-minute golfing trip to Scottsdale to hang out with Cameron who is an environmental economics professor at Arizona State. It sucks ass
If you were a despotic president, what movie would you force Hollywood to make? I want to see Quentin's Star Trek movie or maybe Kill Bill Vol 3.

You could literally make a list of top level desserts that was all just individual variants of apple pie
Apple pie is bad. This is not really debatable. So is key lime pie, while we’re on the topic. Pecan pie is the 🐐 tho.

Frankly this is part of a bigger phenomenon imo. Rich and powerful people in our society fly *constantly* which gives them all horrible brainworms
Tbh if you are flying often enough that the healthiness of airplane food is a significant stressor for you, you are probably rich enough to not be a generally sympathetic character. Grab one of those sad salads in the concourse next to the breakfast burritos and energy drinks and leave us alone

You can pry the biscoff cookies from my cold dead hands
Sean Duffy, the U.S. transportation secretary, has been urging people for the past week to dress and comport themselves better as a way of restoring “civility” to air travel. On Tuesday, he added another item to his list of concerns: the quality of the snacks handed out on commercial flights.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy Wants Healthier In-Flight Snack Options
Sean Duffy, who has been promoting greater decorum among air travelers, said he would like to see choices besides salty pretzels and buttery cookies.

So funny that right-wingers always reach for advertising propaganda and fictional narratives they completely misunderstand when trying to illustrate their political ideals. They don't even bother finding actual pictures of real people despite that doing so would be trivially easy

It's amazing that these people somehow think that we're the pointy headed political perverts

This phenomenon is pretty funny considering substantially all detached single family housing in this country looks terrible. It looks pretty good in St Louis and outer neighborhoods of Chicago since they built with brick but in general even the old stock most other places is flimsy-looking wood
NEW PAPER w/ @cselmendorf.bsky.social & @jkalla.bsky.social:

An under-appreciated reason why voters oppose dense new housing, especially in less-dense neighborhoods: they think it looks ugly and want to prevent that, even in other neighborhoods.

Some of what we think is NIMBYism might not be!

Television should realize that the only reason it still exists is for live sports, and thus all college and pro sports should be on the television with no other special requirements or separate apps or blackouts or Disney-Google wars, and the television should cost $100/month at most.

name a film that you're not even really sure is good but you have a somewhat inexplicable fondness for. I'll start: STRANGER THAN FICTION (2006) starring Will Ferrell as an IRS agent who turns out to be the sentient character of an Emma Thompson novel and figures out that he's going to be killed off

This is one of the genuinely worst lists of this kind I've ever seen in my life. To give just a brief primer, The Waterboy is ranked 27 places higher than Blazing Saddles, which I think is on the books as a capital offense in at least 8 states?

Not using alt text feels like an intentional choice at this point. It took like 2 days to get used to doing it right at the beginning. Adds 8 seconds to photo posts and how many of those do you really do anyway

NEWS: The criminal cases against James Comey and Letitia James are gone. A federal judge ruled that the appointment of Lindsey Halligan as the lead prosecutor was illegal.

DOJ could try again, but there are other headwinds.
