Did I heat up leftover shiitake mushrooms (with thyme and garlic), leftover shallots and fry up some eggs alongside and then top it with leftover tahini yogurt sauce? I sure did. The best meal I’ve eaten in ages.

The day after Thanksgiving, neighborhoods should rotate their leftover pies Little Free Library Style. I says this with the generosity of spirit of someone who just had a pecan pie and huckleberry apple dropped off by a neighbor friend.

A feast was had. I had to go back once there was space on the plate for salads and biscuits, not pictured. I didn’t eat the flowers.

My favorite Thanksgiving hack is standing on a stepstool when rolling out your pie crust. You get extra leverage for rolling it out, and your family gets a jumpstart on roasting.

Fighting the temptation to expand the Thanksgiving dessert menu at the last minute. Inside of me there are two wolves. Both of them want dessert.

Woah. The trick where you soak garlic cloves in hot water before peeling does work, and I just saved so much preparation and kitchen cleanup time on my garlic confit! I’m chuffed.

I feel like grapefruit spoons were ubiquitous in my youth and now people can’t bother to reserve the drawer space. I don’t own any. I do have milkshake spoons. The only single use spoon I have is an absinthe spoon, and I don’t have any absinthe. An absence of absinthe, if you will.

I am feeling deeply unenthusiastic about cooking for Thanksgiving this year which is somehow causing me to try to add items to the menu.

As public health citizens, we rely on agencies like the CDC for science-based guidance. But last night’s change to its “Vaccines & Autism” page - now hinting at a possible vaccine link - deeply undermines that trust. When credible institutions shift in ways that echo anti-vax rhetoric, we all lose.

Dr. Jacobs’ posts about this are 🔥.
I can’t make articulate words happen, I’m too mad. You can’t just take the misinformation down at some point in the future and undo that damage or restore faith in the guidance provided by our institutions.
VACCINES DO NOT CAUSE AUTISM, YOU FLAMING SHITBIRDS.

THE LAST TIME HHS, AS CURRENTLY OCCUPIED BY RFK JR., CONDUCTED A “COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT” OF THE CAUSES OF AUTISM THEY BLAMED TYLENOL AND THEN, BECAUSE IT WAS BULLSHIT, HAD TO WALK IT BACK.

Cruelly tautological indeed. Non lawgeeks might give this a gander as well.
Lawgeeks, check out this amicus brief in the upcoming SCOTUS case about state bans on trans women athletes.

It directly challenges the nutso "ascertainability at birth" argument that Justice Barrett nodded to in Skrmetti and that the 6th Cir. has adopted.

I had to multi task to get dinner ready by 5:00 today and so didn’t even bother attempting to make my crust pretty…but my curried carrot and garbanzo bean pie got the “best dinner ever” effusive praise from a picky kindergartner so I’m calling it a resounding, if homely, success!

Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated
