Hey! Got a bunch of new followers, so time for an intro!

I'm a PhD student studying the multilevel society of the Superb fairy-wren. Passionate about all things birds, ecology and behaviour!

Stay tuned for science content and fieldwork stories!

New paper led by Lauren Common on the “seet” alarm calls of superb fairy-wrens is out today: royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...

Interestingly, this is the second paper this week on these previously undescribed calls (see below)! I think the two studies complement each other really well.

Our talks were also very successful! @franhckr.bsky.social presented preliminary results on superb fairywren foraging preferences, and @sramellini.bsky.social talked about the links between territoriality and non-breeding social behaviour. #SFW_ANU #AOC2025

New paper!

We propose a framework to empirically study animal social relationships by modelling social network (SN) data as time-series—that is, without the need to aggregate them over time.

Check out our new insect decline paper. By analysing 36 yrs of German ground beetle distribution data, we show:
- ~80% of species have declined, with significant declines for >50%.
- The decline was similar across species traits and threatened status.

Why are Procellariiform seabirds most diverse in the Southern Hemisphere?

Our study found that wind patterns and time since evolutionary origin best explain the extratropical peak in breeding species richness of these remarkable seabirds. 🐦💨

Our new @science.org paper is out! Cuckoos and hosts are locked in a coevolutionary arms race over egg mimicry.

But how are these egg types inherited, and could this drive speciation? We sequenced hundreds of genomes to find out!
