New paper led by Lauren Common on the “seet” alarm calls of superb fairy-wrens is out today: royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/...

Interestingly, this is the second paper this week on these previously undescribed calls (see below)! I think the two studies complement each other really well.

New paper!

We propose a framework to empirically study animal social relationships by modelling social network (SN) data as time-series—that is, without the need to aggregate them over time.

Each dyad (a, b) moves through four discrete states over time, represented by coloured circles. The dyad remains in a given state for a certain duration, or "holding time", before transitioning to a new state according to state-specific transition probabilities, indicated by arrows showing all possible (non-zero) transitions. Check out our new insect decline paper. By analysing 36 yrs of German ground beetle distribution data, we show:
- ~80% of species have declined, with significant declines for >50%.
- The decline was similar across species traits and threatened status.

Why are Procellariiform seabirds most diverse in the Southern Hemisphere?
