Saw a man trying to fix a flat bicycle tire in the street today, a teenage boy stopped in front of him and sang a note perfect rendition of Elvis Costello’s “Pump It Up” and this is probably the best thing I’ll witness this week.

Saw another delivery robot (remote controlled cooler on wheels actually ) on Broadway. They stop if there are any oncoming pedestrians so I am really not sure how effective they will be at any time other than early in the morning.

I took a picture of some doorway tile this morning at Broadway and Belmont while people on the opposite corner were holding up signs and cars were honking.

A red post in front in front of a old door with some white tile on the doorway floor. There seems to be a sticker on the post.

in my heraclitus era, refusing to believe in anything but flux. in my parmenides era, refusing to believe change exists and insisting the entire world is an illusion. in my diogenes era. sleeping in a jar, throwing chickens at people unprovoked, wandering around with a lamp.

in 2020 I discovered I had not really given enough respect to the existentialists because up until that point I had not suffered enough. it is now 2025 and I wish we had the writings of the weird-as-shit ancient greek guys because I think I am coming to understand insanity as a philosophical program

a reminder for Chicago folks that picking up or throwing back a tear gas canister will badly burn you unless you're wearing welding gloves which can be purchased for very reasonable prices at Menards

Come to Chicago in the summer. There's usually 10-15 in the area with several known nest sites on specific buildings. Even one in the downtown Loop!

When I lived in England they would treat American friends who needed care when they visited and did it for free because dealing with American health insurance, even the travel insurance, was more hassle than it was worth for them.

We're having trouble finding agricultural workers so the Trump admin issued a rule to pay them less?

These are spectacularly dumb and dangerous people.

So this is funny.
The administration just issued a rule slashing foreign agricultural worker wages. And to justify it, in a public filing, Trump's Labor Department alleges that Trump's immigration enforcement has devastated the Ag workforce and caused a "risk of supply shock-induced food shortages."
Trump Labor Department Says His Immigration Raids Are Causing a Food Crisis
In a filing in the Federal Register, the Labor Department argues there are “immediate dangers to the American food supply” due to a lack of migrant agricultural workers.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Belmont Harbor yacht people saw they were accidentally on the Lakefront Trail and just decided to floor it half a mile up to Recreation Drive. As one does when one is high on automotive clout. #Chicago
