The BICAR-ICU-2 trial just dropped!

RCT involving IV bicarb in metabolic acidosis among patients with mod-severe AKI

Bicarb didn't affect mortality but it reduced the need for dialysis & risk of bacteremia

VERY similar conclusions to BICAR-ICU-1

Funders must recognise that great discoveries often come from studies that seeks to advance knowledge for its own sake

From MRI to Ozempic: breakthroughs that show why fundamental research must be protected
In these financially straitened times, funders must recognize that great discoveries often arise from work that was looking for something completely different.

The biggest threat to the 'streak' are the medical conferences happening almost every weekend! 😅

If this is not a calamity, what is?
172,000 people died in 2023 on Indian roads, translating into 1317 accidents & 474 deaths every day or 55 accidents and 20 deaths every hour!! 🫢
Most of them in young & productive age.
This is worse than dropping a nuclear bomb!

Turns out we ourselves (how we like, share) are to blame for SoMe toxicity and not algorithms! 😐

I spoke about 'Biomarkers in AKI' at the Critical Care Nephrology Conference (CCNA 2.0) at Mumbai earlier today. A short tutorial.

Ageing is apparently not linear.
Had come across this proposition earlier, but looks like there is evidence to support this view now.

The remarkable tale of how humans nearly didn’t conquer the world
Over tens of thousands of years, waves of Homo sapiens set out across Europe and Asia, only for their societies and cultures to mysteriously vanish. At last, ancient DNA is revealing why

1. The 'sacrilege law' is an archaic relic that has no place in a modern, secular society.
2. Nothing, including the concept of god, is beyond criticism.
3. Political parties that endorse sacrilege laws are fundamentally uncivilised and regressive.

Found this beautiful James Herriot hardcover collection yesterday at the 'Kilo Book Fair' in Pondicherry. I couldn't resist grabbing it, though I read almost all of Herriot somewhere btw 1995 and 97, thanks to the excellent Public Library at Kottayam, my hometown in Kerala.

I have no love lost for stray dogs. I was chased by stray dogs on many occasions while jogging & riding my bike. I keep seeing some idiots feeding stray dogs. Look at the number of dog bites! More than 50000/yr in just one district in Kerala! 😱
