There's value in having a more accurate climatology. A fair amount of the operationally useful forecast parameters/quantities R derived from their correlations to tornado intensity. There's value w/ structural engineering and other private sector entities (e.g., property and casualty insurance) too.

It should be noted that there certainly have been tornadoes in the past ~12 years (since the previous "most recent" EF5) that had 3 s, 10 m winds well in excess of 200 mph. However, there just haven't been damage indicators to capture those (largely because few DIs can 'hold out' to >200 mph).

Seemingly Congress can pass appropriations one by one, right? Start passing budgets and reopening agencies already...
srhelicity.bsky.social
Can someone explain why the only options right now are "pass CR" or "maintain shutdown"? Why aren't the Senate and House in session right now working on passing a budget? Some agencies' appropriations bills are ready, AFAIK, for a floor vote after passing out of appropriations committees. 1/2

Then the agent goes and does it. If there are proba (missing data, etc), it'll summarize them. I can then prompt it for changes (e.g., recreate the animations but zoom in 50% and add white labels for major cities), and it'll do it. I want that, not confidently stated but wrong chatbot answers

I'm unsure of generative AI, but agentic AI is interesting. Let me describe to an agent what I want it to do. Example: download yesterday's KTLX radar data (from AWS). Untar it in /data/. Download HRRR analysis files for same day. Make hourly animations of Z using pyart with default display params

The Pitt is probably my favorite TV show from the past decade. Granted, I haven't watched many of the super popular shows, but still... It has such great balance between heart and heartbreak, with characters I care about and want to see succeed. Happy to see that Wyle and LaNasa win too!

“The Pitt” won the Emmy Award for outstanding drama series.

A throwback to the weekly medical drama that used to pick up Emmys like nothing, “The Pitt” managed to pull out the big one. https://wapo.st/4n0ddXR

Is there a press release or something official about this that I can read? I've seen a couple of posts today but haven't been following along.

Been there, done that, unfortunately... 👎 Mine was a trim nail (missed the stud) through a pex line that went undetected until the nail rusted enough for the water leak to saturate the adjacent carpet and pad, which took about 7 years.

An absolutely A+ weather day here in Oklahoma! Temps near 70, dewpoints in the low 50s, light winds, under partly cloudy skies... Considering we are still in early September (!!), I don't think the weather can get much more pleasant than we are seeing today!

We asked Americans about 16 federal agencies. The National Park Service and National Weather Service were among the most favorable. www.pewresearch.org/...
Chart shows Americans largely view the National Park Service, National Weather Service and USPS favorably

Any em dash fans here?

We're currently working on a Windows-wide keyboard keyboard shortcut for em dash and em dash, to make it easier to input for those that need it 😊

#WindowsInsiders
Screenshot of the linked blog, saying: We’re adding a new keyboard shortcut to make it easier for you to insert an En dash (–) or Em dash (—) while typing anywhere in Windows. Going forward, pressing WIN + Minus (-) will insert En dash, and WIN + Shift + Minus (-) will insert Em dash. Note – if you have Magnifier running, WIN + Minus (-) will still zoom out Magnifier, rather than inserting an En dash
