NEW — ICE violence has spread well beyond Minneapolis, with agents landing in small cities like St. Cloud. I spoke with Alice Valentine, a local queer trans woman, who protested ICE on Monday and was pepper sprayed, beaten and jailed as a result, along with her girlfriend.

This is Alice's story:

Alice Valentine of St. Cloud was pepper sprayed and jailed by ICE for trying to protect immigrant neighbors.

There's always something else, there's always something more. This isn't just about Tim Walz. This isn't just about Minnesota being a blue state. This is also about mining copper and cobalt in the headwaters of the Mississippi. I knew there had to be some money angle.

Remember we would always see the “Patriot Front” jumping out of Uhauls, marching through towns? That stopped when ICE got started, I just can’t figure that out

My friend just said “I think that’s photoshopped” my brain was like huh it’s funny that with AI the idea that something is faked with Photoshop now feels quaint and demonstrative of artistic ability.

Also I think “that’s photoshopped” is probably a dead phrase now replaced by “that’s AI”

DHS employees entered our store this afternoon and served us a Notice of Inspection, demanding copies of I9 forms for each employee.

In 27 years as shopkeepers, we have never been subjected to this type of investigation.

Everyone block the ICE account immediately. There is no need to even hate follow it for any reason at all. It's literally only here to troll. Do NOT feed the fucking troll. Do I make myself clear?

ICE has kidnapped so many people from their cars that the city had to put out this statement. Let that sink in.
Vehicles that are abandoned due to an ICE detention and towed to the City's impound lot will be released to their owners or a representative at no cost.

For @msnownews.bsky.social, I wrote an article about how ICE Watch is grounded in sociological theories of violence prevention.

The reality is that most men will only commit public violence in extremely specific scenarios and ICE Watch disrupts the conditions necessary for escalation.
Opinion | I'm a Minneapolis sociologist who studies violence. Here's how ICE observers are helping.
Research into how violence occurs shows that disapproval from the people around you can help reduce it.

AI is not inevitable.

Push back.

Everytime.
San Diego Comic-Con will no longer allow AI 'art' to be displayed at their event

"Material created by AI either partially or wholly, is not allowed in the art show"

This follows backlash from artists after SDCC initially indicated AI-generated work would be permitted

I want to cosign & underline this. Art takes effort. Even the worst art you've ever seen. There's a pretty high floor: a minimum amount of effort it takes to end up with a finished result. Every work of art is a testament to someone's passion to see it through.

Aaaaaand, guess what AI gets rid of.
What I hate most about gen Ai is how it takes away the effort. When I saw art before, I knew that even if it shitty and bad, i could tell that there was someone who worked hard to make it happen. It’s why shit like The Room got popular, because you could see the earnest effort on display.

"Shifting from lab tests to kilogram-scale digestion showed the same thing: 95 percent or more of the material was broken down into the starting materials the polyurethane was made from."

the fact it's scaled up instead of being at a purely theoretical scale is pretty impressive stuff
Scientists have used artificial intelligence to create an enzyme that can eat one of the toughest plastics on Earth. The enzyme breaks polyurethane down into reusable chemicals in just 12 hours at 50°C, turning it back into raw materials. Truly circular recycling. buff.ly/oUxRjjl #ShareGoodNewsToo
