‼️ Big #rayimage update (v0.23.0)! In addition to 'JPEG', 'PNG', 'TIFF', and 'EXR' files, `ray_read_image()` now supports loading 'TGA', 'BMP', 'PSD', 'GIF', 'HDR', 'PIC', and 'PNM' files (thanks to stb_image): It's a one-stop shop for bringing image data into #RStats.

@simonpcouch.com hi Simon! I came across your acquaint package (looks great!). I have proprietary code and hears tools like cursorai are pretty hard to sandbox. It looks like acquaint is fairly easy to sandbox (or are there similar issues)?

I’ve worked with several LLM frameworks in Python. ellmer is so far and away better than any of those frameworks I would never consider using Python for AI work (and if I have to, I’ll use chatlas)

I’m not convinced that AI is bad for R. An obvious talking point is “post language data science”: it now matters less than ever what exact language you use to express your data science code. (But code is still an key part because you must have something that humans can review)

You can’t learn #rstats just by reading books or watching videos of other people writing R code. You will learn faster if you find some data that you are curious about and use your new coding skills to answer a question about it.

Hi #rstats! I am very comfortable in R & looking to learn python & hearing ppl rave about IDEs with LLM like CursorAI that can contextualise using your entire codebase. My code base is proprietary and I can't afford enterprise. I'm wondering if there is any work around or real threat?

@hadley.nz love your work! Any plans for Posit to have an offering like cursor for RStudio or Positron? I am hearing of many of my diehard R colleagues move to Python because they find the LLM support is better.
