If you like the writing I do, know that the same spirit and analysis animates my org. We think we’ve got a lot to offer in the fight for democracy. Please consider supporting us today.
2026 is the year we level up The Pulaski Institution in our mission to promote democracy in the heartlands.

I’m so proud of what we’ve done so far on an almost non-existent budget, and I know we have a unique vision that is more relevant than ever.

Won’t you join us?

On Jan. 5, Acting Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Jim O’Neill signed a memorandum that reduced the number of diseases targeted in the childhood vaccine schedule for all children to 11, just one more than Denmark's schedule.

Canadians are justifiably worried. I wrote about the need for Americans to stand up for the US-Canada friendship, but people simply don't care or don't take it seriously. We do so at our peril. www.usnews.com/opinion/arti...

More than twice as many Republicans report getting news regularly from the Joe Rogan Experience podcast than from Tucker Carlson. Also more Republicans get news on JRE than on Newsmax, Daily Wire, or Breitbart

Very happy to see this out!
Today in @jhppl.bsky.social, we show that few Americans express strong concern about H5N1 health risks.

That's a problem, because public apathy may impede an already-sluggish policy response to a potential pandemic (as @propublica.org documented this week).

new paper by Sean Westwood:

With current technology, it is impossible to tell whether survey respondents are real or bots. Among other things, makes it easy for bad actors to manipulate outcomes. No good news here for the future of online-based survey research

Just when you think we've reached the absolute bottom, Donald Trump shows up with a shovel
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

I just ran a survey (with @stecula.bsky.social and Alex Rivard) and we found that people have no idea what housing prices are like in their community. People simultaneously underestimate what homes cost in their metros and think that where they live is much more expensive than the rest of the US.
Sometimes I think people forget that, in 2021 Rent Control got more votes than Jacob Frey did.

Call me old fashioned, but I think freedom of speech is good, ackschually, and we shouldn't be jailing people for posting memes. Glad that to see the GOP commitment to free speech was full fledged and unwavering and not at all cynical political theater.

Our universities are truly a US superpower. Most states have at least one world class research university that is an engine of the local economy and a magnet for top talent from all over the world. Policies like this are not like stepping on a rake, its like blowing your own head off with a cannon.
Gov. DeSantis directs Florida universities not to use H1B visas. This is such a self-owned. The US is a major exporter of higher ed & sells more of it to China each year than soy. But because a disfavored group offers that service, it's being attacked mercilessly. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/29/u...
