"Thing X is actually thing Y" papers are the worst. Particularly egregious where Y is a makey-uppy fantasy idea (e.g. a time machine etc.). Bonus points when X = Y purely on the basis of semantics, and brain-winner of the year award if thinking of X as Y changes absolutely nothing in the world.

I always wondered why DKIT didn’t jump on the Technical University bandwagon. This is a much better move
Wow, this is a big deal for Irish #highered & cross border collaboration.
I don't know if it was necessitated by financial difficulties or expansion from either side, but it certainly shows progress can still be made on shared island initiatives.

Also true of the vast majority of scholars studying “AI”. That’s both the STEM crew “I don’t know what I’m doing but this GitHub script seems to work when I run it on Google Collabs” and the AHSS “I’m going to focus on the ethics here but only in a shitlib Eurocentric kinda way”
Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

More brilliant stuff. The reduction of thought to language alone is deeply engrained with generations of lazy research regurgitating that Sapir Whorf stuff from the 20s. Which is disappointing given the intervening research on embodied and ecological framings of perception and cognition
