I think on some level they all thought, "Great, now that we voted for a Black guy, we can stop talking about race and prejudice and privilege, right? Sort of close the book on that?" And they got very angry very quickly when it turned out not to be that easy.

BTW, sick of the right-wing spin that Kimmel's monologue was "insensitive" as if he, you know, called the late Kirk a sexist, bigoted grifter (which he was). He didn't say that. What got him censored was that he said Trump was a hypocrite who didn't give a damn about Kirk's death.

Remember, decades ago, when New York Magazine actually used photos of him standing barefoot in Washington Square Park, and then used trigonometry (!), to prove he wasn't that tall. Snarky idiocy has always been with us. But it still won't outlive his charisma.

The only good thing about knee surgery is that it allowed me to splurge on a Barnabas Collins wolf’s head cane. (My wife, perhaps wisely, dissuaded me from getting a sword cane like George Macready’s in ‘Gilda.’ Maybe when they do the other leg.)
