Remember how when Trump was booked he was shown every conceivable courtesy, so that nothing embarrassing would happen to him in public?

Remind me why again? Did someone somewhere think he would return the favor? Is anyone that stupid?

I think on some level they all thought, "Great, now that we voted for a Black guy, we can stop talking about race and prejudice and privilege, right? Sort of close the book on that?" And they got very angry very quickly when it turned out not to be that easy.

BTW, sick of the right-wing spin that Kimmel's monologue was "insensitive" as if he, you know, called the late Kirk a sexist, bigoted grifter (which he was). He didn't say that. What got him censored was that he said Trump was a hypocrite who didn't give a damn about Kirk's death.

My thought? October 14th would have been George Floyd's birthday, too. I think I know who I'm going to be mourning.

The U.S. Senate on Thursday passed a resolution to create a “National Day of Remembrance for Charlie Kirk.”

The day would be observed on his birthday, October 14.

Thoughts?

Nuts, right? You can see why I remember it, even though I first read it (and last read it!) at a teenager 50 years ago.

Remember, decades ago, when New York Magazine actually used photos of him standing barefoot in Washington Square Park, and then used trigonometry (!), to prove he wasn't that tall. Snarky idiocy has always been with us. But it still won't outlive his charisma.

I wish I believed in an afterlife if only so, right now, I could imagine Paul Newman grinning, clapping Robert Redford on the back, and handing him a beer.

A precedent that came from an even more consistently conservative court, too (one that so consistently checked FDR's liberal attempts to assert executive power that he famously tried to thwart them by packing the bench with additional justices).

Ack! I did that recently, too. They then chased me into the house! Connecticut wasps are the worst, too. All of them in little Lily Pulitzer skirts, and tipsy on G-and-Ts.

“Actually, I was running my own undercover sting operation” is what every apprehended bribe-taker or sexual exploiter always tells the cops — right after breaking into a panicky cold sweat and right before being led away in handcuffs.

Wonder what deal Fox News cut with YouTubeTV so that every time I sign on to the streaming service -- EVERY TIME -- Fox News is the first channel in the onscreen lineup even though I have never watched a minute of any Fox News program, even accidentally.

The only good thing about knee surgery is that it allowed me to splurge on a Barnabas Collins wolf’s head cane. (My wife, perhaps wisely, dissuaded me from getting a sword cane like George Macready’s in ‘Gilda.’ Maybe when they do the other leg.)
