On the board: Poynter’s Kelly McBride - “one of the authors of Poynter’s AI ethics guidelines, an editorial standards starter kit that has been adopted by newsrooms across the U.S. and internationally.”
Last week, Suncoast Searchlight's four reporters wrote a letter to their board. Their editor-in-chief had secretly been using ChatGPT and inserting hallucinated quotes into their drafts.

The next day, one of those reporters was fired. My latest for @niemanlab.org. www.niemanlab.org/2025/11/flor...

This is the post-shame era solidifying itself in journalism. The hold-outs did their best not to debase themselves and chase clicks and pageviews and "attention," but they're being driven out of the profession by private equity and dwindling revenue as the Alphabet-Meta monopoly hoovers up ad $$.

you don't have to embarrass our guest by asking if he had someone killed and hacked to pieces
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

The quotes in this story are like an old-school Post-Dispatch article.

"Clubb, reached by phone Monday, jokingly told a reporter, 'I'm going to the penitentiary for 25 years. It's not over yet. You'll have to call me later. I have to go back to court.'"
