For most of our lives it seems to crawl by. But as I get older the passage of time seems to be quick enough that I can sense it as a chill breeze, rustling the leaves. /fin

Huh…

I didn’t stop to think while witnessing the frenzy over the celebration of our 200th birthday that I’d likely be around for the next big celebration at the quarter-millennium mark. 🤔

It’s something we take for granted, but time really is weird. /1

Dems had the majority and did not do this.

GOP got the majority and nuked the filibuster.

Everything is projection.

Demos should use the very powers GOP/Trump have used to advance the benefits of the country.

Thune: "If the Democrats had won the majority, they probably would've tried to nuke the filibuster. And then you'd have four new senators from Puerto Rico and DC, you'd have a packed Supreme Court, you'd have abortion on demand ... "

The lack of our centuries of democratic traditions (however imperfectly realized) is often cited as a factor in failures of democracy in other nations. /end

The third leg of my hope is that unlike most successful authoritarian takeovers, we have a population of 330m people that have 250 years of experience *NOT* being under the jackboots of tyrants. /4

They’re trying to consolidate power quickly which (again) makes all of this obvious even to people that aren’t usually paying any attention. /3

This regime doesn’t have the initial popular support that tyrants usually enjoy, providing a period in which they can slowly wrap their tentacles around the institutions with little concern among, and often enthusiastic support by the population. /2

This is one of the three legs of the hope I have for our future.

These guys are so stupid they’re advertising the stuff that is alienating their support, and further energizing their opposition.

The second leg is…/1

My guess is the Qatari’s threatened to close al Udeid since we didn’t protect them from the Israeli strike, and this is a placatory move. We already train the Singapore Air Force at Mountain Home.

As a protest optics nerd love about the inflatables is how much they visually disrupt and pull focus from the fascist shock imagery Noem & Miller are trying to create.

So many of these photos now look like the world's silliest dance party, backgrounded by a bunch of guys in uniform looking awkward

⭐️ Nobel Committee delivers a tasty soupçon of ‘fat chance, butthead.’

“When authoritarians seize power, it is crucial to recognize courageous defenders of freedom who rise and resist,' the Norwegian Nobel Committee said”

They didn’t just NOT give Trump the Nobel Peace Prize, they wrote a citation that reads like an anti-Trump rallying cry.

(He’s gonna extra-tariff Norway now, isn’t he?)

More than convincing anyone, this makes opposition *fun*

There's a big chunk of our civilization that thinks we should do things that are important just because they're important; we shouldn't need them to be enjoyable. But there are also some who think, hey, let's make it fun to do the right thing

This video is everywhere because it's a hilarious visual refutation of Portland being on fire. You can't get a mass movement going without convincing the masses

so yes, this does do something actually

This literally does nothing. You are not beating fascism by dressing up in inflatable suits and dancing

Every single Democrat in Congress should’ve already had a post up by now about the Trump admin approving a Qatari air base inside the US.

The Trump administration is REALLY allowing Qatar to build an air base in the US after they did a $5.5 billion golf resort deal with Trump and gave him a jet.

MAGA can take their ‘America First’ flags and wipe their asses with them. He is Trump First, and you are suckers.

Something happened in the Republican Party. Over decades we developed a system that rewarded compliance and punished independence. It was like a genetic experiment in how to cultivate a party of subservient elected officials.
