Of course the actual answer here is "Meals will be prepared in large quantities to serve large numbers of people in the neighborhood by the people who enjoy and are good at cooking." Neither kitchen nor restaurant, but cafeteria/cookout.

"What are you going to do, punch me?"

"This party wants to murder you in the street. This other party wants to cause your gradual social murder in isolation."

"I would like a party that doesn't want to murder me at all."

"Omg so selfish, you'll be sorry when you get murdered!"

Nearly done reading Brown/Trans/Les and thinking about how I could even do anything like a review of it. I mean...in theory I have the background in philosophy to engage with it that way, but I have absolutely no epistemic authority to speak on her topics beyond like...summarizing or quoting her.

seriously, one of my favorite aspects of social media is when i queue up a joke & someone actually sees the set up & knocks it out of the park. so satisfying.

Subgenres just have to be visibly representative of the tropes. A Fantasy novel with romance in it is neither the same as, nor bound to the same expectations as, a Romance novel.
This sparked an interesting question about Romance as subgenre!

Romance, Romantasy, & Romantic Fantasy readers & writers--what would you require of a story for it to say Romance was its subgenre? Would it be beholden to HEA/HFN & how much of the story would it have to be?

Late answering this one, but for me it really depends on the book!

I'm someone who likes all the different elements of a story to really weave together.

I've never written a capital "R" Romance (which guarantees an HEA or HFN and I guarantee nothing with my work), but

Zero sympathy for the Canadian politicians feeling sad about the BC shooting. You are all directly responsible for the material conditions that cause events like this to happen. You're going to wipe off your tears, and go back to work continuing to enable these things to happen more, not less.

I think of all the things about this that irk me, it's his constant statement that he said "American Indians" when he actually said "the Indians" like...those are in fact entirely different terms, my guy. Neither is actually something you ought to say, but like...weird to keep misquoting yourself.
“American Indian” is not an offensive term and the weirdos who searched through my tens of thousands of posts to try and find something they could use to label me a racist are not acting in good faith. The game of trying to set up rhetorical tripwires to attack people you hate is incredibly toxic.
When members of a marginalised group tell you to stop using a term to refer to them, it’s not hard to just… be gracious and stop doing it. Which is much easier and makes you look a lot better than doubling down on a racist term and telling the people who find it offensive that they’re wrong.

What's with authors just completely ignoring genre conventions in their writing? This book I'm reading has a lady in a giant mech, and she has yet to be fucked by the mech, or fuck somebody else inside the mech. Why is there even a mech in this book?

Don't really want to talk about Discord, enough going around

Instead I just want to remind you

You have friends who only have close online connections. Please be considerate. Do not scare the hell out of them right now that they'll be abandoned.

The fact that if this worked, she would just make money from books and not try to sell you the technique, is something people need to generalize across every thing GenAI/LLMs purport to do. Capitalism doesn't give away money. If using it was more profitable than selling it, it wouldn't be for sale.
“If I can generate a book in a day, and you need six months to write a book, who’s going to win the race?” God this is bleak

I think every pro wrestling company could learn lessons from Lucha Underground on the topic of being willing to be ridiculous/magical about things. I want there to be an in-kayfabe canon explanation for why a cutter is just a move when some people do it, but a devastating finisher for someone else.

Re: the Red Ogre thing. There -is- a thing to keep in mind which is that most publishers of content have clauses indemnifying them from suit on the subject of things you submit to them. If you submit a thing, and by coincidence, they were already about to publish a very similar thing...

"Locked in the Trunk of a Car" (The Tragically Hip)

"Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of War Drums" (A Perfect Circle)

"Friend is a Four Letter Word" (Cake)

"There is a War Going On For Your Mind" (Flobots)
Deleted a post about “what’s your least favorite song” because the vibes are bad enough already.

Instead: what’s your favorite song that has a long title, say at least 6 words long?

Mine: “Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town” (Pearl Jam)

"All Summer Long" by Kid Rock. Not only is it terrible, but it also tricks you into thinking you might be about to hear Warren Zevon's "Werewolves of London" which is a FANTASTIC song. The Whiplash is worse than expecting Under Pressure, and getting Ice Ice Baby.
Fuck your favourite song. Tell me your least favourite song. The one that makes you die inside the moment you hear the first 3 seconds.

for real, though. I'm looking for an affordable (definition flexible) place to live with these guys, starting march 1st. I can be normal. but I figure I might as well give the sales pitch of being weird and esoteric too. really any place that I can be reasonably comfortable with the cats works, tbh

Feeling some kind of way about the fact that I just saw the news that my 4th grade teacher was just arrested for sexual assault/interference/exploitation of a young person which occurred...the year he was my 4th grade teacher. So I almost certainly know the victim (name not yet released).
