The Strategic Tape Reserve, based in the Penedès region of Catalonia, is a fully independent organization dedicated to the responsible dissemination of ferric cassette materials.
A “You’ve Got Mail” remake set on Bandcamp Friday where Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks are rival noise artists who accidentally buy each others’s tape because they both released under a new alias.

One benefit of AI music is that it finally puts to rest the vulgar misapprehension that music is math.

Not to spoil anything, but Star Wars isn’t really about stars. Very little star content in there. All of the action takes place either on planets or in outer space. You can see a few stars in the background sometimes but this is also true in movies like Titanic which don’t purport to be about stars.

From 2026, we will no longer be adding sodium nitrite to our cassette tapes. This isn’t an admission that we were wrong to add it in the past; different experts have different opinions. It does mean you can enjoy our music totally free from any sodium nitrite related anxieties, starting in January.

Whether it’s in “New Word Symphony” or “Kiss From A Rose”, any time you hear an oboe in a piece of music, that’s a cameo by the duck from Peter And The Wolf.

Music promotion tip:
Get a cauliflower and cut it into small pieces on an oven pan. Put on some butter/oil, garlic and whatever seasonings you like and then roast it on 200°C for like 80 minutes. While it’s in the oven, write some friendly emails about your music. Then enjoy the amazing cauliflower.

“The Wind Beneath My Wings” is a great song, but it’s not the wind that’s causing Bette Midler to fly. According to Bernoulli's principle, it’s having higher air pressure below her wings than above. Of course wind can affect her journey, possibly making her fly faster, but it also causes turbulence.

Let’s talk about bit depth. The rule of thumb is to use one bit for each instrument in your track. So if you’re recording a rock band, 4bit is usually good enough. If it’s a jazz orchestra, maybe 16 or so. If you’re recoding a symphony orchestra I wouldn’t go below a bit depth of 32.

You screw up 100% of the synth-sax solos you don’t play.

Say you’re making a traditional sandwich. Put mayonnaise just on the bottom bread and then lay on your cheese and/or coldcuts or whatever. Then you add your onions, tomato and lettuce and on the lettuce you put oil, vinegar and oregano like it’s a salad. Now you got a Blimpee’s circa 1992 sandwich.

A lot of what we think of as music is actually just gunk.
I've changed the water filter on my record cleaner. This is how much yuck comes out of about 25 LPs, some of which were brand new.

I have a massive amount of respect for anyone who makes music. Doesn’t matter what kind of music or if it’s good or bad. As long as they’re not a real giant asshole. Same goes for people who make pizza.

Music is basically a detective novel where the musicians are the suspects/criminals, the listener is the detective and of course the music is the crime. The listener tries to determine what happened and what was the motivation, while the musicians try to obscure this, so they can get away with it.

When you write “I hope this email finds you well” to a person whom you actually don’t hope that about, you’ve technically committed cyber-fraud, which is a very serious criminal offence in most jurisdictions. So that’s something you might want to keep in mind.

A couple of years ago, a worker at the post office suggested that I might be able to have my own plastic post office bin, to put all my packages in and then bring to the post office. It hasn’t happened yet (or been mentioned again) but I’m hoping that if I just keep my head down and work diligently
