Congrats to the Mariners on winning the Battle of the Somme of baseball games. I think the Jays will have a tougher time against them because they will not be fueled by pure liquid Yankee hatred. Mariners are downright likeable.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

The CEO of Bluesky is craven and evil. The only people that build these platforms are infected with the self-reproducing moral rot of capitalism. They have no sense of duty or stewardship. They see their monetary reward as a cleansing justification for their actions.

As others, including Ireland, rush to help their citizens involved with the flotilla, here’s what Canada’s government told me of the six Canadians on board:

“The Government of Canada is not able to guarantee the safety of Canadian travelers, or to provide them with security and protection abroad.”

Hi Rachel, We will get back to you asap. Thanks,

In a follow up:

Please see our response:
The Government of Canada is not able to guarantee the safety of Canadian travelers, or to provide them with security and protection abroad. The decision to travel is personal, and individuals are responsible for their own safety abroad. Global Affairs Canada (GAC) advises Canadians avoid all travel to Palestine due to the ongoing military operations in the Gaza Strip and the unpredictable security situation in the West Bank. More information is available on our travel advice webpage.
While the Goverment of Canada has no plans to accompany the flotilla, this does not in any way detract from Canada's position that humanitarian assistance into Gaza must be immediately scaled-up to address the catastrophic humanitarian situation. We continue to urge Israel to allow the immediate entry of UN-coordinated humanitarian assistance, via land crossings, into and throughout Gaza.
Since October 2023, Canada has committed more than $400 million in international assistance in response to the current crises in Palestine.
The immediate priority must be a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of all hostages, and a sustained influx in UN-led humanitarian aid. Canada is committed to continue

A man was just chased and arrested outside of the Broadview ICE facility in Chicago. When legal observers from the National Lawyers Guild asked why, an agent threatened to arrest them too.

Canada Post is uniquely positioned to be the vector for both high speed rail, and taking couriered delivery service out of the hands of companies like Amazon. But instead the capitalist cowards in charge are cutting it and screwing us all.

The government is reducing service standards and Canada Post’s biggest advantage: its nationwide network.

This plan is about cutting back the postal service instead of investing to give it new revenue tools through things like postal banking. It’s shameful.

Gander is preparing to launch their beta sometime in next month (October).

You're still able to sign up for the beta on their website.

As weary as I am about social media, i'm excited to see a larger Canadian presence in the space.

Most interesting is how the app is handling links to news articles.

They appear to be using an algorithm similar to that of GroundNews. Links are displayed alongside indicators for bias and factuality.

I'll be curious to see how that all works.

Checked out the video preview for upcoming Canadian 🇨🇦 social media app, Gander. Here are some highlights:
1. You'll have control over your feeds
2. They'll launch with feeds weighted towards Canadian content
3. Post: text, images, videos, and galleries.
4. Bookmarks for posts.

and there's more...

If you, like me, are the parent of a neuro-atypical child dreading this autism press conference, please remember: These are the people hurting our kids. Not us. They are the ones stigmatizing and pathologizing them. They are the ones peddling untested science. And we should be very, very angry.

I did a deep-dive into Ben Mulroney's extracurricular activities:

At the same time as Mulroney is filling-in as host of The West Block, he is also working for two registered lobby groups and as an adviser to several companies – some of whose CEOs he's interviewed on Global News 640 Toronto radio

The new host of Global News’ national political news show also works for registered lobby groups, advises businesses and hosted election events for Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives earlier this year

Liberal Chief Government Whip, Mark Gerretsen, also just cited ChatGPT as a trustworthy source.

He did so to counter the Conservative minister's ChatGPT talking point.

We're so close to having the Canadian House of Commons turn into one big LLM query.

The individual who cited the chatbot was the minister from Edmonton West, Kelly Mccauley.

I wonder if ChatGPT helped him with any other aspects of his speech?
