Hello old followers and new! Glad to be here with all of y'all. For those who don't know me, I'm a Taiwanese American Millennial. I'm queer, independent scholar, a Christian pastor, artist, musicologist, and activist.

All I have to say is that sometimes an artist is happy and living their life and their music becomes less interesting. In that moment i just appreciate they’re a human and im happy for them as a person but not for myself as a fan lol. But that’s okay. Their life is more important than my fandom

One of the great pleasures of reading is coming across an artful metaphor. Describing AI as a “single-use plastic of the mind” is just 🤯 It’s also a perfect example of what AI is not capable of. AI is about shortcuts & optimization whereas a powerful metaphor creates understanding through detours.

"single-use plastic of the mind" had me GAGGED
But a still graver scandal of AI— like its hydra-head sibling, cryptocurrency-is the technology's colossal wastefulness. The untold billions firehosed by investors into its development; the water-guzzling data centers draining the parched exurbs of Phoenix and Dallas; the yeti-size carbon footprint of the sector as a whole—and for what? A cankerous glut of racist memes and cardboard essays.
Not only is the ratio of Al's resource rapacity to its productive utility indefensibly and irremediably skewed, Al-made material is itself a waste product: flimsy, shoddy, disposable, a single-use plastic of the mind.

You can spend today seeking a way to support and uplift the many marginalized groups that Kirk demonized and harmed.

I have written and deleted a lot of posts but I keep thinking about how the brutal assassination of Minnesota State senator Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark, and their beloved dog Gilbert in June did not prompt this same level of calls for empathy, sympathy, and flags at half-mast.

"Community organizing is both a science and an art — a science because it is grounded in a systematic understanding of power and oppression, an art because it demands creativity, empathy, and adaptability in order to build relationships and trust." - James Forman

Are you not naturally gifted? It will take 10-20 years of hard work to truly master your art, and there’s no guarantee of financial success.

Honestly this is an excuse.

I know plenty of people who are not “naturally gifted” who do art.

It requires effort to learn. I feel you did not approach it correctly or think things happen over night.

Also hard work and skill is not “naturally gifted” as that undermines their efforts to draw.

In 2023, I visited an Anne Frank-themed church in Japan, where Christians pray for the Jews and the restoration of Israel in a sanctuary built to resemble the "secret annex." My reporting and reflections w valuable input from Rev. Thomas Hastings and more:

just... the lesson i've learned from history is that those aren't the people you want to emulate, unless your goal is also to get beheaded in proletariat rage too

been seeing a lot of people talking about or defending "rococo" and my first thought was... rococo? the style that emerged right before the french revolution when people cut the heads off of the rich bloated aristocrats who lavishly spent money while regular people did not have money for bread?

Matt Rodgers and Bowen Yang's performance of Aerosmith's Don't Wanna Miss a Thing "In Absentia" has sent me off on a binge revisit to a classic song. Truly inspiring. CULTURE IS WHEN A GAY MAN DOES SOMETHING AS A JOKE AND SLAYS!!!!!

Part of the reason I reject using AI is because I resent the idea that I have to optimize my life to an even further extent. Enough already
