yeah I played through it 4 times in rapid succession when it came out. (true casual, 100% with looking up stuff if I really can't find it, speedrun to palate cleanse between 100%s, steel soul 100%)

I went back to Grimrock recently after feeling a REALLY strong desire for some good old dungeon crawling, and it's genuinely so good.

Something that's weird to me about the genre is that winning doesn't even matter that much? I didn't finish it (though I intend to go back).

I was there both times when my brother came out to each of our parents

and it's IMMEDIATELY obvious which one's "trying" and "oops failing because it's just so hard" and which one's genuinely trying but fucking it up sometimes and it's SO incredibly fucking tedious when it's the former

I think LttP is "fine" at best because I played it as a young adult after blasting my brain with LA and the Oracles as a kid so a different 2D Zelda felt off for a long time

but that's what makes it interesting to yap abt

I think it's a kind of thoughtless upscaling of how their inner circle of friends runs; where you get limitless benefit of the doubt and support (ideally)

this was a topic for me on mastodon. a critical part of the fedi sales pitch is "we are decentralized, you can diy!" and everything flowing from that

however, that's an anti-feature as far as the average user is concerned. they just want things to *work* and _somebody else to be responsible for it_
