BREAKING: NYT reporting that Trump has just fired 8 immigration judges in New York City who worked at 26 Federal Plaza. That's NYC ICE HQ.

In the city that declares "give us your tired your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free," Trump shuts down due process for immigrants. This is fascism.

"It’s a striking story not just about the Trump administration’s zealotry when it comes to immigration policy, but about the critical role hundreds of federal judges have played in steadfastly holding the executive branch to the law."
There's a lot going on, and immigration law is notoriously labyrinthine. But it's still wild both that (1) the Trump administration is trying to treat millions of non-citizens who have lived here for years/decades as "arriving aliens"; & (2) *hundreds* of courts have (almost unanimously!) said "no":
195. The Immigration Detention Flood
The Trump administration's attempt to quietly—but massively—expand who can be detained pending their removal has been met with overwhelming pushback from a remarkably large number of district courts.

The Trump admin just fired eight immigration judges in New York City.

All the judges were dismissed from the immigration offices at 26 Federal Plaza — a building that houses the NYC headquarters of ICE and has become the epicenter of migrant arrests in the city.

NEW: Another purge of immigration judges just happened, this time in New York City. This latest purge includes one of the smartest people I know, an immigration judge who dutifully served on the bench for 10 years. She was unceremoniously fired in violation of civil service laws.

In 2019-while Trump was president-the DOJ prosecuted Tony Hernandez-brother of Juan Orlando Hernandez

Juan was named as a co-conspirator who got bribes from drug lords to ensure safe passage for 400 tons of cocaine through Honduras-including $1 million from El Chapo

We should point out the irony here. Trump announced just days ago he would begin stopping drug traffickers in Venezuela “by land,” and yesterday, he promised to pardon Juan Orlando Hernandez—who’s serving 45 years in prison for working with El Chapo to smuggle 400+ tons of cocaine into the US.

Remember in May when Trump gave asylum to 17 family members of the Sinaloa cartel after making a deal with El Chapo’s son? And did you know in 2013, El Chapo bribed Juan Hernandez- who trump just pardoned - in exchange for protection in Honduras? I’m sure it’s all just a coincidence.

Oh and I don't suppose the fact that Hernandez employed MS-13 to move drugs, and the fact that Trump dropped charges against MS-13 leaders to send them back to Bukele in El Salvador who had secretly worked with them is also a total coincidence. I'm sure it's nothing.
