Can confirm that One Last Day Of The Holidays by @sunnyintervals.bsky.social sounds super fab driving through a forest in the Dordogne.

“Unstructured time can stretch so fast, it’s so underrated, perfectly orchestrated”

Five years since we released IN THE APRIL SUN, our affectionate and hopeful lockdown/reunion record. FIVE YEARS of life-changing weird magic.

Shout if you want a free download. If you have it, feel free to give it another play.

My review of Sunny Intervals’ brilliant indie-pop, for Louder Than War:

“Sounds like a classic to my ears … Hudson can’t help but populate his songs with details – he has the songwriter’s equivalent of a photographic memory, decorating his songs with vivid visual clues”

Here's a chunk of my newly-written @sunnyintervals.bsky.social review on Louder Than War; composed after a run of careful listens. It's a remarkable, very enjoyable, very literate LP - surely one of the best of the year.

Full review here: louderthanwar.com/sunny-interv...
An extract from my Sunny Intervals review for Louder Than War. It starts:

"How careful and musical the arrangements are on this record. Hudson’s palette is constructed from a sparsely chosen range of textures; rhythmic guitar picking, twinkling pianos, bursts of orchestral detail and the occasionally tinny beat. I’m reminded most of Darren Hayman, Kings of Convenience and Blur, but frequently the songs spiral into a fragile, delirious stomp which most recalls the ecstatic sweep of Motown or Northern Soul, or in the case of showstoppers The Blink of An Eye and Draw The Curtains, Paul Weller’s Style Council-era blue eyed soul balladry.

Much of Swept Away concerns melancholy moments of isolation and corresponding instances of longing for belonging. Summer Draws In and Lost and Found are both fretfully preoccupied with impermanence, where both a glorious summer and a new romance are haunted by the inevitability of their ending: “Vacation romances and summer encounters / doused like the charcoals on barbecue sets”. On ‘Waiting for Sunshine’ “the tide comes in so fast but then it just rolls slowly out”. Everything changes, nothing is certain: “I don’t know how the story ends / I don’t know if the arc is going to break / or just bend”."
