"There was a feast once, and it became the Last Supper of my people.

This is the kind of poetry that should never have had to be written. Tweet from Gaza doctor Dr. Ezzideen (@ezzinggaza).
Two years ago, on a Friday that now stands outside of time, my father prepared a feast. It was meant to honor life, my graduation, my return, the promise of a future. The table was full, not only with food, but with faith: the quiet, unspoken faith that tomorrow would exist. How easily we believe in continuity, in the mercy of another morning.

We gathered as one family, laughing, speaking over one another, breaking bread with careless joy, pouring juice into glasses as though it were the wine of peace itself. Each gesture was a prayer, though none of us knew it. My father’s hands moved as Christ’s once did, blessing the bread, dividing it among those he loved. And somewhere, though no one could name it, there hung in the air that same fragile foreboding that filled the upper room in Jerusalem, when love spoke its last words before betrayal.

The air trembled with that kind of happiness which only later reveals itself as farewell.

And then, silence.
The silence that only the dead can teach. When I look now at the photographs, I see the faces of the condemned, though they did not know it. More than half of them are gone, devoured by what men call war and what truth calls murder. The homes that once contained our breathing, our prayers, our smallest tenderness, crushed. The gardens that smelled of oranges and evening, erased. I walk in memory as one walks through ruins, touching the stones of vanished laughter.

October 7 was not the birth of a war; it was the death of illusion. On that day, history tore itself open, and the wound has not closed. It bleeds through every surviving soul. And in that blood I see not only the crime of one nation against another, but the crime of humanity against itself, the old, endless betrayal that men repeat while invoking God.

If justice still exists, it must weep.
If God still looks upon this earth, He must avert His eyes.

This day should be marked forever, not as an event of politics, but as a revelation of the human abyss. Let every flag descend into silence. Let every tongue fall still. Because what was taken from us was not only life, but the very rhythm of being alive, the rustle of bread torn by a father’s hand, the sound of a child laughing before she learns what grief is. They took from us the ordinary, and left us with eternity.

And yet, I remain. I, who ate with them, who still taste that bread in my mouth as though it were guilt itself. I live, and I do not know why. Perhaps only to remember. Perhaps only to tell the world that history is not written in treaties or speeches, but in the trembling of hands that once passed a dish across a table, in the laughter that did not know it was bidding farewell to the world.

There was a feast once, and it became the Last Supper of my people.
And the world, indifferent, learned, self-satisfied, did not attend.
But it must remember. Because if it does not, then we, the living, will have died for nothing, and the dead will have died twice.

2) it is not the cop's job to hold the powerful accountable. This "inquiry" is performative.

This extraordinary piece from Gaza by Ali Skaik about the ceasefire made me cry. It contains so much—joy, grief, determination, love, sorrow, hope. Very proud to run it in @thenation.com today. Please read it. www.thenation.com/article/worl...
Then my sister Huda, 21, was awakened by a phone call. Her friend told her the ceasefire would begin at 12 PM. "A ceasefire! A ceasefire!" she shouted, her voice shaking with disbelief. The whole house erupted— some of us laughed, some of us cried, and all of us dared to hope, if only for a moment. My 10-year-old brother Abedrahim jumped from his mattress and danced around the room shouting, "The genocide is over! We'll finally eat chicken!" I walked through the ruins of Al-Rimal to find a cafe with internet so I could submit my exam. The streets were unrecognizable. Shops were flattened. Homes were piles of ash and steel.

I ran into my friend Khaled Al-Saqqa, 27, the sole survivor of his entire family. When I told him about the ceasefire, his eyes filled with tears. “Why was I left to suffer alone?!” he asked. I had no answer. I simply hugged him and whispered, “God gives you strength.”

We’ll welcome back loved ones who fled to the south—but not all will return. The IOF killed many who sought safety in so-called “safe zones.” Among them was the family of my father’s cousin Yusuf. A midnight strike on September 28, 2025, hit the apartment next to theirs as they prepared to pitch a tent. His wife Nidaa, daughter Ruaa, 18, and son Hamoud, 11, with curly yellow hair, were killed. Yusuf survived, along with his daughter Aya, 21, who suffered a broken leg and pelvis, and Aboud, 17, who remembers hearing his mother’s last breath.

We will remember the martyrs—those who died teaching, reporting, healing, mothering, surviving. We will carry their memory like fire in our hearts. And we will begin again.

The real war is now. The war of healing. Of remembering. Of refusing to forget. Of restarting. Of chasing our dreams.

Apparently our newest Nobel Peace Prize winner wrote to fucking Netanyahu for help in overthrowing the government of her own country dawg
The population of Venezuela needs international protection against the widespread and systematic attack to which the Venezuelan regime subjects it. This is demonstrated by the report dated May 29, 2018, submitted by the Organisation of American States to the International Criminal Court. This has served as the basis for nine states, including Argentina, to file complaints against the regime before that international body. We deeply appreciate this effort, which is decisive for the outcome of the Venezuelan tragedy.

I am convinced that the international community, in accordance with the responsibility to protect doctrine, is called upon to provide Venezuelans with the necessary support to bring about the regime change that is urgently needed to restore national and international security. Therefore, I have recently sent letters to several of the world’s leading figures to promote before the United Nations Security Council the adoption of effective protection measures for Venezuela by fostering regime change, a step that necessarily entails strengthening international security. Today I want to ask Israel and Argentina to contribute their expertise and influence to advance a sound and urgent decision-making process in the Security Council.

Such measures are imperative in the face of a hemispheric security hotspot like the one currently posed by the regime oppressing Venezuela. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the International Organisation for Migration have certified that the current refugee crisis of people fleeing Venezuela is the largest in the history of the Americas. Argentina is an example of this crisis, having welcomed hundreds of thousands of our compatriots—a gesture for which Venezuelans will always be grateful. However, we must be aware that without a change of regime in our country, hemispheric and global security will be at risk.

If Canada wishes to remain a sovereign country, our leaders need to stop thinking that “North America” exists. Now, there is only the US, Canada, and Mexico. We need to reject Carney’s appeasement strategy — there’s no other word for it—and fully reckon with the cost of independence.

Mark Carney has chosen deeper integration with the United States. There can be no clearer sign than his decision to reject Canada’s longstanding anti-BMD position. Most worryingly, he is continuing to act as if a fascist US and Canada comprise a “we”.

Mark Carney sold himself as a pro-sovereignty, transformational leader, but he has acted like a defender of a status quo based on confined dependence on a Trumpist United States.
In any case, that’s not what Canadians voted for. But I’m not sure that Carney cares about that small point.

It's genuinely shocking how little of Rafah is left. An ancient city that had a pre-war population of ~200k, forced to take over 1,000,000 refugees from Gaza City and Khan Younis, then completely levelled for the crime of being the only city in Gaza with an escape route.
