This happened in my metaphorical back yard!

From @404media.co:
'XhAle Brew Co., based out of Alberta [...] asked for its entry fees of $565 to be refunded, and for the “destruction of XhAle's data collected during, and post-judging for the Best Beer App.”'

What Happened When AI Came for Craft Beer
A prominent beer competition introduced an AI-judging tool without warning. The judges and some members of the wider brewing industry were pissed.

I never said Pelosi was getting paid by Putin: I stated point blank that she was NOT, as seen below. The Democrats have lied about this for over six years, so I wrote about it as an example of online smear tactics. Read on for a study in propaganda in the AI age: substack.com/@sarahkendzi...

Happy 120th birthday, special relativity!

Albert Einstein introduced special relativity in the paper "On The Electrodynamics Of Moving Bodies," published in Annalen der Physik #OTD in 1905. 🧪 ⚛️ 🔭

Manuscript: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1...
English: www.fourmilab.ch/etexts/einst...
A black and white photo of Albert Einstein, around age 25, sitting at a desk. He is a wearing a flannel suit and resting his right arm on the desk. Einstein is looking to the left of the photographer in this posed photo. The first paragraph of the paper, in German. Translated to English is reads:

It is known that Maxwell's electrodynamics—as usually understood at the present time—when applied to moving bodies, leads to asymmetries which do not appear to be inherent in the phenomena. Take, for example, the reciprocal electrodynamic action of a magnet and a conductor. The observable phenomenon here depends only on the relative motion of the conductor and the magnet, whereas the customary view draws a sharp distinction between the two cases in which either the one or the other of these bodies is in motion. For if the magnet is in motion and the conductor at rest, there arises in the neighbourhood of the magnet an electric field with a certain definite energy, producing a current at the places where parts of the conductor are situated. But if the magnet is stationary and the conductor in motion, no electric field arises in the neighbourhood of the magnet...

On my way to a memorial edition of Coffee Outside. Expecting lots of friends comforting each other, sharing memories, savouring coffee and lots of tears.
Somewhere, behind the dark clouds, the sun is rising.
Elevator down; funicular is good.

Watching Alberta at this moment is critical for the whole country.

That edgeward slide into authoritarianism, which feels like a threat looming in your peripheral vision, is now always in plain sight in AB. Its government *welcomes* what is happening in the US.

In addition to canceling Disney+, Hulu, ESPN, there’s a pretty lengthy thread on Reddit of Marvel Unlimited fans canceling as well.

For all of this, if you ARE cancelling, highly recommend you be explicit about why (Kimmel, fascism) in the comments or over the phone: www.reddit.com/r/MarvelUnli...

I would love to be part of the conversation on MSNBC related to the Kimmel story and it's chilling effects on first amendment, but unfortunately I was terminated by MSNBC for stating that "hateful thoughts lead to hateful words which lead to hateful actions".

Straightforward effort to change military culture/personnel towards a specific political and partisan perspective. In doing so it would hack away at the norms that have maintained civil-military relations.

Politicizing the military as with what they are doing to DHS/ICE/CBP. So dangerous.

Worth reading. What I'd point out is that conspiracy theory is usually used to *avoid* having to accept hard truths. What do you do when the conspiracy is the hard truth itself?

I wrote about what I think is a genuinely revealing document of elite depravity and impunity. It is shocking and sickening. But it's also a crucial moment. We're about to see what happens when conspiracy theorists actually get what they asked for but it turns out not to be what they want.

I've been informed that today is Read A Book Day

How I plan to celebrate it: on other days, we can read (all or part of) several books, but on read a book day we must sadly confine ourselves to reading just one book, in memory of all the people who tragically haven't had enough books to read
