Love this timeline. As I painstakingly spend hours reviewing texture and detail photos from PNW trips for those elements that best fit this novel and what impacts the protagonist's state of mind the most.
The whole article is repulsive but this passage is at the core of it. She has no interest in writing books, she wants to win some kind of competition that nobody entered

Was talking about this last night. Organizing and activism take so many forms.

A car has been sitting in the lassiter district parking lot since before July of 2024. It was finally towed away today after bookstore staff had been asking the landlord about it since August 2024. We are v. excited about the free space.

But even if our only impact is to stand in solidarity with the lives lost in Minnesota (and beyond) and with the individuals who continue the fight for our rights, we can’t sit by and act like this is all just another day to work or shop.

Weather allowing, we hope to see you this weekend.

A one-day general strike is symbolic, but as booksellers we believe in the power of symbols. One missed day of work and of sales on its own makes little direct impact to the economic numbers that seem to have come to matter more than people do.

As George Orwell wrote in 1984, “The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” We’ve read the books, both the novels and the histories, and we’ve seen where this ends. So what do we do now?

with whistles & phone cameras,, against tear gas and guns. The hope that public shame alone — the shame that caused these agents to hide their faces, names, badges — might be enough, has been shattered. And we are being told we didn’t see what we saw, that we somehow didn’t understand what we saw.

Over the past months, we’ve seen our government show increasingly open disdain - first for a diversity of ideas, then for established law and due process, both in North Carolina and across the country. And now, we’ve seen the deaths of people who were protecting their neighbors

Not sure how the administration thinks this plays into their narrative, bc at best it shows that Pretti is a normal human being instead of a saint, and at worst it implies they actually targeted and hunted him down like they've threatened to do to other protestors.

We’re just not a free country.

Any American watching this play out between regime forces and journalists overseas would recognize it for what it is.

Are you a driver that aims for the slushy icy bits in the road or do you avoid them entirely.

I remain absolutely furious that all this shit in Minneapolis started because a barely-literate homeschooled mormon made a video trying to run up in daycare centers trying to find people of Somalian descent doing fraud despite the ringleader (a white woman) being in jail since March. Demonic.

The idea that America needs to occupy Greenland because we actually care enough about native people and want to build oncology centers is enough to make your head fully explode
Waltz: "Denmark has ignored Greenland from a defense standpoint and they have ignored the Greenlandic native iniut people ... if you get a cancer diagnosis in Greenland right now, it's darn near a death sentence. Denmark has not invested in the way it should've over the years."

I’m begging lefties and liberals to stop posting things that erase the reality of how violent the US has been to Indigenous people and Black people (among other US populations) ever since its inception and along the way.

PLEASE. Do not copy conservatives by erasing history.
