That new Star Trek movie doesn't count cause the real ones are all capable of being watched as a standalone series. You'd never even know Picard is a tv character and still love and understand First Contact.

I love the story that the smoking man was just a one off metaphor for government oversight in the X Files pilot, but William B Davis was so damn creepy they brought him back as a major player due to fan demand.

I like those books Yahtzee Croshaw book about a space pilot going on misadventures and feel like I singlehandedly kept that whole series afloat
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.
